Replaced both dims on my Honda today, second time in 10 months.Using Lucas 12v 55w halogens.
They seem to blow regularly and its a stones of a job replacing them, up under the wheel arch every time. Any other bulbs I could try? Or anything else I could do to help prolong their lifespan?

Sounds like a surge problem if they blow that often.

A google bring up this you can have a look at

I assume you have a generation 8 Accord as you have to access this via a wheel arch? If you consider using Osram longlife bulbs, these are the OEM supplier and you'll do better than 10 months (mine are going 5 years)

Having replaced both at the time, passenger's side blew last week, driver's yeaterday. Is there anything I could try before I take it to an auto electrician?

If it's is overcharging, or poor connections to the bulbs will cause this. Also check all earth connections.

Bad battery connections will cause the alternator voltage to jump up and down which wont help.
Is your battery in good shape ?
Are you sure the filaments are burnt out everytime, not just a bad connection?
    can you measure the voltage?

Will have a look at it over the weekend. Had checked for the earth connections couldn't find them, even following the link above.

Are you wearing gloves when putting in the bulbs by any chance?

They should last longer than that, only changed mine 2 months ago on my avensis and have the car 7 years.

No I wasn't tbh, which I'd say was the problem.Had forgotten about this til now. Outcome of it all was i was touching the bulbs on insertion going up underneath the mudguard under the front wheels.

Figured out it's a far easier job ripping 6 or 8 screws which drops the whole bumper where you can take the whole headlight out in your hand and much easier access. No bulbs replaced in 7 months:-)

Just posting in case anyone else runs into the same bother.

Glad your sorted. It is amazing how something as small as forgetting to wear gloves can **** things up.
