Gaming PC for my mate (€1200)

So I'm selling my 7870 xt boost to him for 120. His budget is 1200 including the 7870.
He's also buying a brand new z87 pro4 from me (I bought a 3570k and the Z87 and the CPU socket is incompatible..so I have a spare z87 pro4)


1. What is your budget? €1200 (-€205 for GPU+motherboard) so €1000

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes, windows 7

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Headset, GPU, motherboard, mouse

5. Do you need a monitor? Yes, 1 1080p monitor

5a. If yes, what size do you need. 24inch. 60hz minimum.

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.] [Yes/No]

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Wireless card

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer, Credit card

9. When are you purchasing? Just specing for now

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? I'll build it for my friend

p.s: He's going to need a Haswell CPU because the Z87 doesn't take the older kinds.

To be honest if he's looking at spending that kind of money, I'd be looking at a card much stronger than the 7870XT. The budget's R9 290 territory.

Or getting two 7870xt's.

Better off with one beast of a card now than two cheaper cards together. I don't think you can crossfire the old card with a 280 or 270 card.

Alright but when I got my PC with a €225 7870XT, I spent €1300 and got the pc from scratch. If we get him a proper R9 290 with good temps+acoustics (the TRI-X or double dissipation) then won't the rest of his PC suffer? I got my R9 290 TRI-X OC for €385 and that'll mean he has €815 to spend on the rest of the PC. I had €1075. Will that be good enough for a proper case, mechanical keyboard, monitor, etc. ?

He's telling me that he wants to just get the 7870xt for now. It's only €120 I'd make back from it so I wouldn't mind if he got a better GPU.

Depends what kind of gaming, but that 144hz monitor would be fantastic for counterstrike if you're playing competitively, if not then I'd say spend that same 280 on getting one of the korean 27"ips monitors?

Just needed then is a cpu cooler. Not sure what to pick but there's plenty of budget left if you want to get a h100i, or else maybe the new noctua d-15?

Then there's probably still budget left for a razer deathadder, big 'speed edition' mousemat, and potentially a mechanical keyboard, like here.

Then $10 on windows 7/8 using reddit software swap, and then the budget would be gone!

edit: I'm also not sure what the total power draw of the system will be. 500w seems reasonable

Might swap the case for the Cooltek antiphon though. It's like 15 more and has more fans and dust filters + he wants to get it cuz it's the same one as mine.
We won't be playing CS and only I will get over 60 FPS on ultra games so a 60hz monitor is fine. Mines 60hz anyway. He will use the extra money for other stuff like the mouse, keyboard etc.

He has a macbook so he can't swap windows over to his new pc. I think I'll chose the hyper 212 evo for the cooler because it's good with my 4.5ghz 3570k.

500W should be great because my 4.5GHZ 3570K and R9 290 TRI-X OC is on a 500w PSU.

Brand new Z87 pro4. I bought my dad a work pc a while back and got him the Z87 pro4 with an i5 3570k...different socket types. (LGA 1155 vs 1150) I told him I'd sell it to my friend and give him the money back. It's going up for 90 on hwvs now but I got it for 84.99 and it's new so he's getting it for 85 from me.

So he won't be able to use his mac again? Because he'll have to swap the mac OS for windows 7? If so then he says no.

He brings it over to mine sometimes and we play Rust with other friends for hours and he likes having it because he can bring it around the place unlike a desktop.

I'm giving him the motherboard for free so he's down to €969 instead of €1054 now.

Is this thing safe? Because paypal is safe to do those payments with because you can get refunds after 14 days but he doesn't have paypal .. just credit card/bank transfer as his payment

I'll show him it. What's the difference between 600w 80+ bronze and 80+ silver?

Plus that build + the keyboard, mouse, mousepad, windows + wifi card will cost 1,200 and he lowered his budget down to 950-1060. Is there another GPU which is better than the 7870xt boost that would fit in the budget?
