I agree, the state visit of Kimye this week was undoubtedly a story for the grandkids. I could see this happening.

Neither would I, I'm hoping the theme will be something modern like technology. Just something I can fit my prepared personal essays around!

Yes I can imagine the essay titles now:
Write a personal essay on personal hygiene and what it means to you.
Write a short story in which a bar of soap plays a major role.
Write a descriptive essay on the different types of soaps and shampoos to be found in a shower
Write a speech in which you emphasise problems 'the great unwashed' face.

"You ever been shot by a bullet? Let me tell you, it ain't the best feeling in the world, a burning piece of heated metal ripping through and tearing skin, bones and tendons on its path to end your very life. Just one quick flash from the barrel of a gun and next thing you know it feels like a fairy bore his little magic train straight through what ever appendage he was aiming for. A pain which hurts more than the infamous quote from woman "WELL CHILD BIRTH IS THE WORST PAIN IMAGINABLE!!" It doesn't help that your skin is made from soap, least the bullet will come out clean on the other end.."

Essay sorted, its about a good bar of soap gone bad, he needs to rob a bank to provide for his soap children who have passed there sell by date, as you can tell things take a turn for the worst...

Tragedy wouldn't be too bad for the essay, but it'd be tough enough for the articles and speeches.

Travel could be nice enough, have a look at the 2003 paper 'Journey', gorgeous paper.

When we talk about theme here, is it what the Articles are based on? Haven't heard anything like this before. Guess it just shows how bad I am. Anyway, say Black Rights comes up, could I use my knowledge of Martin Luther King from History and the Boycott?

Yes, but don't fall into the trap of writing a factual history essay :)
And you can also use the information and characters in the articles and pictures to inform your main essay if you wish. Some students make the mistake of thinking that doing this is 'cheating' - it's not, it's using given material as inspiration, which is a good thing :)

If you look at the list given in a previous post, all of the themes have been abstract. You might get something like Prejudice or Intolerance, but nothing specific like you mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,188 ✭✭✭dee_mc

The theme of the paper is stated on the first page (have a look http://examinations.ie/archive/exampapers/2013/LC002ALP100EV.pdf)
All the comprehensions and the essay titles are loosely based on the theme, which tends to be quite general.

Oh yer, won't make that mistake. In the mock we had to write an essay on a courageous act, just thinking it would be good to write about being a student in a sit-in or a march.

That's the stuff, it's great to have a bit of a sub-plot going too, so think about setting a story/essay in a historical period that interests you.
