Wooden Pallets

    Hi Guys,

I was hoping to pick up some wooden pallets to build some raised garden beds and also possibly some garden furniture if they are of reasonable quality. I'm a student so was hoping to source them for free if at all possible and was wondering if anyone might have any ideas or leads I could explore.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks all

They will have rotted within a year unless you do some serious treatment.
Mostly wood used for pallets is very light and soft. If you have ever tried to dismantle one without breaking it up, you will understand.

You could try asking around on industrial estates, many companies will give them away.

If you're in Dublin, try Smithfield market.

Must stress that you should ask, even if the pallets are outside premises.

scaffold planks are cheap enough and are better suited

Pallets are great to learn with, I'v made some seats with them and they work well. Dismantling the bloody things is the hard part, use a pry bar and a hammer, start in the middle and work out to lessen the breakages.
Who cares if they only last a year or two, they cost nothing but time.
Ask at garden centres and building supply yards. They give away the disposable pallets, transporting them is another problem. I get three on the roof rack of a car but any more than that and you need a trailer.
