Advice re second hand desktop

    Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a second hand desktop. My budget is max €100. The only prerequisites I have are that it has WIFI & a HDMI connection and runs windows 7 or vista.
I'll be using it for streaming from various players and internet browsing. Don't need a monitor as will be connecting it directly to TV.
If anyone has any recommendations as to what to look out for or what spec I need, please let me know, it's not my area of expertise and I don't want to buy something that isn't fit for purpose or waste money on more than I need.
    Thanks in advance.

AT that price .get a laptop, cpu at least 1.5ghz,
    2gig ram,100gig hard drive .windows vista,or windows 7.
    15 screen ,
check has it got hdmi out,
Most tvs, have vga in, vga cable ,male to male cost 7 euro.
    set resolution on laptop,1024x768,
refresh rate grahics card, to 60mhz.

    I got a laptop, 60 euro.
2gig ram, cpu 2.0ghz.vga out, no hdmi out.
got it cheap, cos dvd drive is dead.
    battery life is 1.5 hours.
    See for sale, www.adverts.ie

FOR 100 euros, it would be hard to get a good pc.
    with hdmi out interface.
dual core cpu 2.oghz windows 7.

i Removed the battery, only use it when traveling .

Alot easier to buy a laptop, leave it plugged into tv
    USE VGA in, cable,
    Than find a fast pc,
PC USE more power, and tend to be noisey ,unless you buy a mini pc.

YOU can set laptop, graphics, options,
switch off laptop screen when connected to a tv.
OLD pcs= lots of noise .

Thanks, I was hoping to narrow it down a lot more than that though.

Thanks, I had not considered VGA as an alternative, will add that into the filter. Laptop sounds good too, I just assumed a higher spec desktop would be cheaper than the equivalent in a laptop but makes sense to look for one discounted for any reason that won't impact what I need it for.

LOOK on adverts.ie for sale laptops, 100 euro limit,
you,ll get a dual core cpu laptop,
1.5- 2.0ghz processor cpu , much more up to date than an old pc.
TRY and get os win7 ,or windows vista.
WINDOWS xp is no longer supported .

    http://www.adverts.ie/laptops/dell-inspiron-1501/5165232

    This is ideal ,fast cpu,win7,

    http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookreview/dell-inspiron-1501-review/

    FOR 100 euros ,
you,ll get an old,pc, loud, uses alot of power,
    with windows xp.

or get a fast laptop windows 7,
you can get a good picture using vga 1080p,
    or 1024x768.

MOST streaming website are set for 720p .

Make sure set graphics card to 60mhz refresh rate, settings, graphics adaptor.,display.
    otherwise using vga out,

or hdmi out, you could damage the tv display.

You'd probably find a used older hdmi video card for less than e20 on ebay if you look hard and get lucky. (Another option if you find a machine that ticks all other boxes)

Don't use XP if you are going to let connect to the net.

I have bought 4 laptops very cheap recently, 2.2GHz, not complete, would do HDMI with a cable adapter, could do you a deal maybe for one if you don't mind an unconventinal solution. They'd have Vista Business COA's. I intend to use them for Folding@Home (see my sig) in a barebones config with just mobo/cpu/ram/psu, but I'd let 1 go, PM if interested.

    Some laptops ,have dvi out,
can connect to hdmi, using a dvi to hdmi adaptor,
    cost 5 euro

I think for streaming, connection to tv, a laptop is a better option.

a desktop with wifi and hdmi, for less than €100?

not going to happen unless you build it yourself, don't pay for an OS, and get most of the parts for free.

Don't want to sound mean, but it's just not going to happen.

Happy to be proved wrong though :)
