Simplicity itself, and if you drop the reel in the mud or sand, no bother - run it under a tap later. Ideal for beach, estuary conditions, night work too. Interesting mix of centre pin and fixed spool reel technology.

I use it with an Alvey tele surf rod. Never seen them for sale in Ireland fishing shops though. Online is your best bet. Got mine here: http://www.alveyusa.com/
