Currently in pre-alpha on steam. Coming out for PC and Occulus Rift.

Creepy... Very creepy... Having survived a plane crash and watched a tribal looking half naked cannibal take your son away, you rise from your blackout and set off in a bid to survive.

It's not long before your attempt to build a wood-log fortress, or gain some comfort by a night-time fire while cooking fish, lizard or rabbit is interrupted by your first encounter with roaming cannibal parties of up to 2-8.
They spot you, and inspect you - Some even climb up into the trees and proceed to follow you from above, leaping from one to the other... And then, noticing you trying to get away after they've cornered you, they attack.

It's a mix of RUST vs 7DaysToDie vs DayZ, though replace zombies with tactful and vicious skin eating mutants, who look all too human - And, for the moment, it's entirely singleplayer.
Essentially a survival horror crafting game with open world exploration and random elements - It won't be long before you're running for your life mid "Building awesome base of survival".

It's in very early alpha (15-16euro at the moment) but I have to say, it's making a great first impression and going down well with the YouTubers. If the crafting element or surviving the night isn't your thing, then you'll have fun roaming around while hiding behind a tree as you spot your first cannibal camp, surrounded in skulls and body-part effigies.
I barely managed to survive one night, simply because of pre-alpha bugs - But the practice will definitely help!

If overcome by the cannibals, you're in for a tense attempt at escaping their cave
Here's some of my failed gameplay as night arrives and I get discovered:

Played it for a bit last night. After about 10 minutes I remembered reading about saves not working so logged out to test it. Glad I did it 10 mins in as the saves don't work at the moment. Would have been pissed off if I pumped hours in, only to log in at the start again. Hopefully it'll be patched soon, although some are saying it'll be at least 2 weeks.Either way, won't be playing it again till the patch

Looks like good fun but I think I'll be waiting until the saves work also. Something like that would make me rage big time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭john the one

Was just about to buy it until I found out about the no save. Might just put the money to watch dogs now!

Off topic when is the steam summer sale??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

It looks very interesting, but I will wait for it to be a bit more mature with content.
Having no save option at this day and age is just bizarre. Are we back to Nes times? They might introduce code system again? :pac:

It's amazing that the developers (all 4 of them) can create something like this. The world is stunning, really is. Trees falling realistically, birds on your hands, etc, all beautifull.

At the moment its far too easy to die. Defense is nigh on impossible, and making it past day 2-3 is pretty difficult.

I'm looking forward to the promised peacefull mode. The world is beautiful, but i feel like it is a little spoiled by the difficulty.

On my first playthrough i just strolled around, killing rabbits and building a cabin, concentrating entirely on food and shelter (as you do in a survival game). Imagine my dismay to be mauled to death 30 mins after i step out of the plane.

learning through death that "oh, i should focus on defense first" isn't really the best way to go, and i think this could have been done better by having the guy in the first cutscene brandish a weapon at you or something. Learning through failure and replaying is poor game design. A few scripted events to put the frighteners on you would go down a treat.

I've not seen them myself yet, but i hope they remove the squidhead brutes. I hope they keep it to a simple tribesmen want you dead, really dead, and that they steer clear of the whole mutant zombie thing.

Can't wait for co-op either. 5-6 people vs the world, Rust style would be awesome in a world this nice.

Gave it a go there. Game looks stunning overall, the odd low res texture (e.g Boulders) and Texture issues regarding rain etc but looks great, especially the lighting.

Encountering the natives was quite terrifying, surrounding you, observing you then one of the women ran up and smacked me in the jaw and it was gloves off at that point, full melee mode. Melee was quite satisfying knocking them about the place. They knocked me unconcious and woke up in one of their caves with the sight of seeing airplane passengers butchered and strewn everywhere.

In short the game is looking very promising with the premise and roadmap but since it's pre-alpha there's obviously bugs that need ironed out so that depends on whether you want a buggy game at the moment or to wait a while until things get more stable.

Can you craft weapons and beat the crap out of the natives? or stalk them in there own camp and take them out one by one :D?

    haha, well I bought it.

My first run wasn't very productive. As soon as I got outside the plane there was 3 locals on me. Killed two, the third ran off.
So I started to gather to try build a hut. Looked up after a while and 6 locals were standing around me, including the chick who ran off.

    I got owned :D

    Trying again

anyone buy from here? Is the G2A shield necessary or how does it work?

BTW should the two threads be merged?

Yeah, this thread should assimilate the one in Games.

This is one of the few games I'm thorougly looking forward to completion. I haven't bought the alpha and don't plan to but I've been watching a lot of videos and this is definitely seeming like an instant purchase when finished, especially at such a low price because it's indie.

Adding The Forest to my list of games to get hyped for. It's now

    Hitman 6
    The Forest
    The Witcher 3
    Batman Arkham Knight

The game really has a way of making you crap yourself.

My second run was slightly better than my first but not my much. I got a hut of sorts built but apparently all my tree chopping was pi$$ing the locals off to no end. They were around me fairly quick.

    Got knocked dafaq out again.

Rezzed in a cave. So was running around flicking lighter on and off when that music to say: "You are screwed" kicked in.
Bricked myself and randomly fired a flare gun in all directions. Hit some naked bloke who set ablaze and ran around like a... well, a man on fire really.

Eventually escaped the cave, made my way back to the plane and where my hut was. Continued towards the hut marker through a bunch of dense bushes only to fall off a rather high cliff, plunging right to my death.

All that said and not surviving for more that one in game day, this game has great potential.
Lovely graphics (bit buggy but that'll fix in time)
Mob's that seem to think somewhat. At least it felt like they were deploying tactics against me when fighting... (watch out for those feckers who climb trees) this meaning you can't just swing wildly at them. You'll quickly run out of energy if you do anyway.
It's definitely on my watch list and for the current price, it's well worth a purchase.

I was hiding in the bushes outside the plane as I knew a few of them we're going to come investigate. I saw them but before I could do anything they started running and then climbing the trees chasing something, jumping from one tree to another. I started hacking down a tree with one of them on it but before I could one of them sneaked up behind me a clocked me. Had a brawl but ended up unconcious and woke up in cave again.

I imagine it's going to be very difficult when there's a group including the mutants, I guess thats why you'll need so many traps.
Can you craft weapons and beat the crap out of the natives? or stalk them in there own camp and take them out one by one :D?

You can chop them up and use their leg as a weapon :D. Basically you can beat up one of them with their buddies leg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,044 ✭✭✭Wossack

looks like they take far too many hits with the axe imo, be better off hitting them with a wet newspaper

if they want to go the route of very tough normal enemies (a good thing imo), it would be better if the natives dodged, or deflected blows, instead of the current face tank. Could be planned though..!

I agree with this they do take too many hits. And even when they are down and you are two handed smashing your axe into their skull, they still tend to get up for one or two more swings.

But again, this is still pre-alpha. Tweeks will happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

yeah I'd say it's more a tool to be used (chopping, cutting etc). The axe found in the cave looks alot larger and probably does more damage.

Really impressed with how quick they're knocking out hotfixes and patches. Also really lovig the crafting, even though it's limited and the way your base is always indicated on the screen. I'm getting old and forgetful, so it's always nice for there to be a bit of direction for old ****s like me.

It absolutely amazes me that this is made by just four people.

Looks kinda like Stomping Land in a way.

Stomping Land is in early access also. Build a dwelling, kill dinosaurs, etc.

Annoyed me a bit. Every time I start a game I get owned by muties quite quick.

One game yesterday I managed to survive for slightly longer than normal. I grabbed a few bits around the plane and ran off, knowing they would be coming soon enough. But it seems no matter what direction I go, I run into a patrol of 5-6 and get destroyed.

Once I only managed to run into 2 of them. Killed one while the other tried to run off to her buddies. Caught up and killed her too. All good, perhaps a little breathing space. NOPE. Another 4 standing around me within a minute. Awww poop.

Their vision can be ****e though so i usually run for a bit and lose them. I'm finding the game is crashing my gpu though and running it about 4 degrees hotter than any other game i've ever played, but its alphaphapha i know.

I have about 15 hours in. Bit of craic. Own the game a few months and paid full price. Will go back again soon after far cry.

Mind you, the room is 5 bucks at the moment and its wonderful so have a think! If you had 15 euro, get both and get at least 20 hours fun from both
