I've been reading about the types of cycle licence. A1 - a4., and I've seen people cycling like jet powered engines on the road.. I've been woundering what do people win wen they enter races and what do the pros win, is it just for the love of competing and the joy of racing.. I do be woundering., some bikes out there are really cool looking.

Ha im just ones of those people who does be woundering., what happens in the world of cycling, it looks like a very high performance sport.

In the world of amateur road racing people do the following:

    1. Do a lot of cycling (obviously)
    2. Spend a lot of money on expensive Carbon Fibre bikes/wheels, gears, clothes, training equipment, racing licences (A1-A4), petrol/diesel driving to and from races, race fees, additional bikes... (the list is literally endless).
    3. Do a lot of training (as opposed to just cycling). Intervals till you puke anyone??
    4. Do a lot of suffering, especially in races with when cresting a climb at 35km/h and probably also in training... refer to point 3 above.
    5. Win absolutely nothing (at least for 90% of people, 95% of the time). Most racing cyclists are losers by definition.
    6. Tell their friends (or anyone who will listen) all the crash horror stories and near death 80km/h decent near misses (and not so near misses). Good question to ask: How many times have you broken your collarbone/ribs/teeth (this year)?
    7. Do their best to reduce the collateral damage that their committed, crippling & life long addiction has on their family, friends, relationships, employment and wallet.

    As for Pro's:
Most of the above except they win more and get paid to do it.

Road Racing is basically awesome as items 1-7 above clearly demonstrate.
