Hi.I've just fished 2 bats out of a water butt.guessing theyve fallen from the roof above.one was drowned.the other seems o.k,and is drying off in a cardboard box.he's very mobile, crawling about but does not attempt to fly.I'm guessing they were very young. If I let him out later, will he be able to fly/fend for himself?or should I keep him until he's stronger and feed him something?

Depends on it's age really. Can you get it back to the roof?

Thanks for replying.I wouldn't really know where to put it.I think it must have dropped into the gutter and been washed along by the rain,so could have come from any part of the roof.it's only about an inch long, but I don't know what species it is,so that gives no indication of age.I think bats are mammals,so it probably needs its mother.wondering what age bats can fly at.if I put it somewhere close, could it find it's own way back?we have a bunch of cats,so doesn't stand much chance on the ground.failing that, dish of milk?cat food?

Caring for a bat pup is not easy at all. The best thing is to try and place it as sclose as possible to where you think it fell from. Feeding is difficult.

This site has good points. I hope something helps.

this evening around 10pm place it as high on the wall as possible. If it is a pup it will call for the mother who should come and collect it. It may also climb back to the roost. If you have a roost you'll know because of the droppings below

A photo would help to ID it for you and confirm it is a pup
