Second hand will be fine. Get Danny Bryne to look at the tank before you buy. Hell tell you if its sound. Would the boss not give you the parlour

He's out in camolin. Fits packo tanks and does all the tank servicing for glanbia in the Wicklow Wexford area.
He might even have a tank or know where there is one

Ya would don't know much about grants never got one for anything we did on uncles farm/my farm now just payed ourselves or should I say subsidy payed for whatever we got sheds etc but il take whatever is going if I can get it. how many cows would 6000l tank cater for on three day collection?

I'd say you might as well apply any way. Ours got sent back here yesterday and they want prices redone on everything. Think new scheme us opening next year.
If your going to milk 70 heifers I'd say they won't do a whole lot more than 25 a day for first year. So they'll put 5300 at peak in a tank for first year.
What sort of cow are ye going for?
A jex won't do a lot more than 25-26 at peak a friesan might do 30

Ya will do sure no harm to apply anyway
What cow that's a million doller question hear jfx high pro bfat milk less but cost lot less to keep I cull or calf valve
britishf good milkers good continental calf from them to sell and good cull cow value.
Hols milk milk and more milk but no calf value or cull cow
Norwegian red are a good cow low maintenance but very tough to train in
montbelard good milkers but most have prob with feet this is all just my opinion from what I see in work and farms around me all up for correction

How everyone gets so much mileage out of the cow type debate I don't know, simple as the actual breed doesn't matter a whole lot, the majority of farms down south have some sort of middle of the road cow who can knock out the 6k+litres of milk a year, and is able to walk the 1 or 2km on average a day (typical on a 100acre block). A cows EBI has been well shown to help you select the best possible cows, so the only hard and fast rule in my book would be to pickup cows with as good an EBI as possible. Other than that just avoid the extremes at both ends (high yielding HOs and the likes of 4kl ’goats') then the usual try to avoid dealers etc, instead pick fairly reputable farmers selling their excess stock out the gate.

So any breed really as long as ebi is high sappose it is what the farmer can get out of them also

You'll get yourself in trouble around here if ye give out about hold :)
Were gone for the 5500-6000l high ebi Friedan here coming from a crossed herd.
I'm thinking that's the route for me any way.
Don't like montys for the same reason you give. Spent time with them before and wouldn't be fond of them

I like bf as an all rounder and I would think there the easiest to get my hands on . Luck has a lot to do with anything you go at to help you succeed but also need hard work and dedication( and a good cow whatever breed) :-)

Will you dismantle and assemble yourself? Are you building a shed or putting it in an existing shed?..
Was thinking of putting in a secondhand parlour in an existing building but the parlour washings is where I got stuck as they must run to a tank..?

Have a place I could put a parlour, that's besides the slatted unit but I would have to build the shed to put it in..
