I bought a car on the 22/05/14 and there was no tax on it. I have not received the log book yet but according to motor tax online the change of ownership was done. So maybe I will get it Tuesday, but back to tax question will I have to pay for tax for the whole month of May even though I only got the car the last week of May?

From date of purchase/date on logbook when you both signed

It's from the start of the month that the change is done in. Motor tax is done in full months so the op has to tax it from may on, inclusive.

Just to clarify, from the first day of he month in which the date of purchase occurred.

So yeas, you will have to tax for May.
Try doing it online now, by resetting your pin. As you are new owner, it should allow a pin retrieval to yourself.

you have ten days to declare it off the road for May from the date of purchase if that is what is was.
