Yeah seen those, the audi with an estimate of €400 looks like it could make a nice retro ride.

    I lOVE the international!

And the mk 5 cortina (dad had one - but this is the 2 litre ghia).

    And the datsun

    And the xr4I

    and the Prefect pickup

    And the Bedford

Thank goodness (I think) I don't live in Ireland anymore - or I'd be in big trouble!

Some of those guide prices seem very low.

That orange Mustang Convertible has been sitting in that showroom outside Kilkenny near the rugby club for the last few years.

I like the rougher zephyr Ute

Should we start a new thread dedicated to that sale in Kildare?

That Montecarlo caught my attention too (note the trade plates on the dash and in the rear/side window, i.e. being sold by a UK trader).

    On a different note -

Hopefully there is a low turnout as there is potential for some nice bargains.

THIS is what could happen if some/all of us here won the Lotto - 'ADDICTION' has many forms :p:p:p

Some collector, hope he enjoys his retirement
It is part of a large collection of over 70 vehicles from a private owner who is retiring to warmer climates thus the collection is now up for Auction.

    Auction on 7th June 2014

    DOORS OPEN/VIEWING FROM 9AM - AUCTION STARTS AT 12PM

This and the other lots which will be advertised here are to go under the hammer on 7th June in Davidstown, Tullow Road, Castledermot, Co. Carlow

Wonder what happened the E-type http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/jaguar-e-type-series-3-22-coupe/7044729

The 1600E's bring back memories http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-cortina-1600e-for-auction/7044638

    Z cars ?? http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/ford-zephyr-6-for-auction/7044393

I'd say there'll be a lot of UK bidders so watch the prices shoot up, bit like the Alsop auctions

Another Ford of a different class http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/ford-d1000-t-u/7046413 Bought a D-series V8 Fire truck one time but shaggin thing broke down near Abbeyleix so it ended it's days there :(

    Yes, I would think so.

It would be really interesting to see what comes up for auction, bidding interest and results. Who knows the winning bidders might provide some post auction updates as well.

I've been keeping an eye on that auction and been in touch with the auctioneer with regards to the 120y Fastback - absolute dream car of mine, the car that got me into Japanese classics. Was hoping the auction would fly under the radar a bit but then he put it up on Donedeal :-p Bidding is also restricted to whoever shows up on the day, no online/phone bidding according to the auctioneer.

I'll be sure to clear my calender for this.

That is some collection, very broad though - Jag E Type and a Corsa?

Fair dues to the owner. I wonder what he took with him when he moved!?

Some very low guide prices. We all know classic car prices must be at some sort of all time low in this country these days, but I'd say most cars will fetch a lot more than those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭68deville

I suppose all will be revealed on the day, pics as opposed to actual viewing
In the flesh will dictate prices then again all it takes is two bidders to make no sense! Will try make it up and have a look and some interesting cars no doubt

The low estimates will have more than usual taking an interest id say , a smart move by the seller/auctioner

It wont take long for the odd muppet to push the prices to silly numbers on the day id say as is the usual case over here !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭winnie the schtink

those cars will not be bought for anything near the guide, friend of mine offerd him 2k for a 100e ford and was laughed at

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

The guide prices might be realistic on some given their rustiness and general dirtiness. They could have done with cleaning the mould off the steering wheels and the likes too.
There will be plenty of them that will get big money even if they require plenty of work however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,219 ✭✭✭Redrocket

will there be a reserve on any of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭mattroche

The guide price is the carrot to get you there, and hopefully they hope you will lose the head, and bid silly money. View the car, put your value on it, and don't go above that. There will always be another day, & another car. Went to my 1st auction in London ( Brentford ) in 1970, bought a Wolsey 1500 for the grand price of £2, filled it with petrol, and drove to Fishguard, and had 2 weeks trouble free motoring holiday.

Found it a little funny how they got well above guide for all but 1 of them, although the Landy was simply superb.

Ya cars were well done, even though a lot of problems were glossed over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,358 ✭✭✭kev1.3s

Yeah even tho I enjoyed the show it wasn't a restoration show in the car SOS guise, more of a history lesson.

I see at least one car is UK registered....not legal to sell it.

    who pays the VRT?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,880 ✭✭✭Kaiser D

They might add the €200 on as additional costs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

and the penalty for late payment? I wonder how many of those are on UK plates, quite a few I'd wager

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,880 ✭✭✭Kaiser D

I'd like to know myself how they're actually going to do it.

I've seen a few UK plates, and I'd say some of the black plates on the older cars are too.

Jesus lads this is old hack now.... The buyer is only responsible from the date of purchase.

    that's Motor tax ....

The buyer is responsible for Both Road tax and Vehicle Registration tax from the date of purchase and not any arrears incurred by previous owner(s).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,358 ✭✭✭kev1.3s

I taught it was the same for VRT too.
I could be wrong but it would seem a little unfair to punish someone who bought a car in good faith.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

No such thing as road tax. Arrears of Motor tax die on change of owner.....VRT still payable + penalties....has to be paid within 30 days of import and doesn't go away on change of owner (not that that is legal to do of course)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 463 ✭✭Testacalda

Was talking to an auto jumbler down at Innishannon that lives up that way, he reckons that a good few of those cars have no paperwork.

Obviously that's just one guys suspicion, and one would have to find out the facts from the auctioneer, but I wonder IF that was the case, how much would that affect values.

I remember about 5 or 10 years ago people didn't have a problem buying something on a non irish reg, or a car missing a tax book, but it certainly seems to scare people off now!

If it were known there was no paperwork and /or VRT owing, the hammer price would be lower than otherwise.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

As per usual. If it looks too good to be true-then it probably is.
I have a feeling there will be a lot of sad heads leaving there the next day. :pac:

If a U.K. Reg. car is auctioned with NO V5 or Certificate of Export, leave it there, it will not be worth the hassle. If it has either, then there would be no problem making an appointment with a N.C.T. centre, and paying the E200 V.R.T. I never had to pay any penalty, we are talking about small money, so I think they just don't bother. If some one bought a U.K. car on Sat, get your purchase invoice, that together with the V5/ Certificate of export, PPS No. Driving licence, and a Household Bill, and your E200 and that's it. Good Luck with your bids!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭B2AUDI80

A lot of silly talk and scaremongering about vrt and back penalties again

Same with the no paperwork issue
,, both no big deal tbh , maybe its just the further south ye go the more that folk make a big deal about it but its not a big obstacle to overcome in a border county , ive bought plenty of classics without v5's and while the dvla can be a bit slow its not a problem to sort

the fella who owns this 'private collection' is a dealer and most likely has a tam no is he not entitled to sell them with this?

If he has a Trader Authorisation Number (TAN) number then it is perfectly fine for him to hold/sell imported vehicles. The new owner can then just register the vehicle in their own name upon payment on the relevant VRT fee.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

no that's illegal. A dealer with a TAN number must re-register them on sale.

Correct except the dealer will register in the new owners name upon payment of vrt or indeed a dealer could re export them with no payment too.

Either way there will be some crowd at this. Iv had two fellas ring me today to see will I go with them, and they foaming at the mouth.... Also quite a few are bringing trailers to bring home their 'cheap' cars.

It's got a lot of interest, great tactic from the auctioneer to undervalue most stock to tempt as many as possible to the auction to get as big a crowd as possible to hope for a bit of auction fever in the room.

Auctions - good for seller, Straight sale - good for buyer. Rarely got anything from an auction except ex-Garda stuff, and that was before the 'foreigners' started buying

Maybe someone can keep track of prices achieved v's 'guide prices' and post here later ;)

Jesus, I haven't been to this forum for a while, came for a look this morning, read this thread and by page 3 realised why I don't frequent here too often. A thread about a great collection dragged down by typical Irish begrudgery talking about vrt, log books etc. - it's quite depressing and miserable. The usual ****e here. I would have thought a classic car forum would be full of people who appreciated classic cars and whose focus was on the actual cars.

I think it's great to see a car collection like this. Makes me realise I'm not as addicted as some ! Or maybe I but I just don't have the means or space to amass a collection of that size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭68deville

I reckon between 9 am and auction start will determine alot of people's
Appetite when the cars are viewed in the flesh, will be there myself with
In interest in a few cars

Shocked at the prices some of the stuff made, the Etype ended up at 17k.

There was a Mexican Beetle there with an old Irish plate on it, apparently sold for 8000 but had a forsale sign up on it again for 8500.

The GT6 made 3100 and it was rotten, who ever bought it will get a shock when it's out in daylight.

Cleanest thing there was a Ford Prefect pick up.Made 8700.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭mullingar

    We're you there LM?

I got there @12:30 for an hour, jam packed, impossible to have a decent look at anything

+1 on the e-type but it was the rare v12 but with a severely damaged roof
