Whirlpool ADP 744 (Dishwasher): Stuff coming out dirty!

As per the thread title, have a Whirlpool ADP 744. A lot of the time, cups and stuff come out dirty. That's despite me cleaning the filter and running a couple of those dishwasher cleaning solutions. Someone also suggested to me that although I use the 3-1 tablets, there may be a need to separately top up salt. I've done that - and still no joy.

The issue seems always to be with stuff on the upper 'shelf'.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

I had the same problem with a different machine last year. Tried everything. It was also eating salt by the ton. Ended up buying a new machine.

Thanks for your post. Did anyone explain to you exactly what was at issue?

I have no problem going out and buying another one - but I want to make sure that it really is uneconomic to repair or beyond repair first.

It was a cheap and cheerful model which I was never happy with from day one. I didn't bother getting a diagnosis as the cost of a call-out would have been almost the same cost as the machine itself so didn't think it was worth the bother. You may fare better though.

Try getting a dish washer cleaner and putting it through a cycle. make sure u use decent tablets like finish or fairy and in find rinse aid makes all the difference.

Not familar with your washer but we had similar problem with a Bosch under top shelf there is a plastic rotating arm tht sprays the water up we cleaned this seems to have solved problem!

Have done this twice in succession - without success. As regards the tablets, they were finish I think. Have just finished that box and moved on to aldi dishwasher tabs.

Re. rinse aid - will give it a go.

I'm pretty sure that's not the issue - but will double check and make sure ...thanks.

I had done all that, using cleanser, rinse aid and took off the arm and cleaned out the little holes with a pin (there was no other way!!). Rinsed everything, cleaned the filter inside and out, cleaned the chamber the filter sits in, washed it all out with everything I could, dishwasher cleaner, lemon juice, vinegar, you name it. Maybe I was unlucky with my dishwasher, nothing worked. At the end as I said before, it was eating up salt but the last straw was when I noticed some of the cups didn't get very wet so perhaps it was something to do with the flow of water going into the machine. I had forgotten about that actually. So, makeorbrake, that might be your problem as well. It wasn't worth it for me to get it fixed but it might be for yours.

makeorbake, your d/w has all the symptoms of a faulty wash pump

Is there any test I can carry out to verify that? Is it difficult to replace?

if you are a fairly competent diyer you need to remove the wash circulation pump by removing the two hose circlips and check the impellar for end play (similar to checking a bearing for wear) the pump is magnetic so if you feel resistance in revolving it that's ok, its a type of looseiness you are looking for and I am almost certain you will find that. be careful removing the circlips. disconnect from mains before attempting repairs.

Thanks 'The Red Ace' for your post. I thought it a bit disrespectful of me not to come back and respond. I guess I'm not a natural diy'er (although I guess necessity dictates and all that!). Between that and time constraints, I never got round to checking it.

I did change d'washer tablets and started using rinse aid - and it seems to be much better. Think I will make do for the moment - if it reverts or gets worse, I'll carry out the check that you mentioned in your post above.
