as I understand it the aoe2 "remake" wasn't terribly well received, i don't know how the mythology one turned out... I'm just not arsed spending the money at the moment... rise I never really got into back in the day, i was age of empires: rise of rome till I die so it slipped past

looks interesting though, definitely one to throw onto the maybe pile of capitalist excess

Rise of Legends? The biggest difference was, well, it ran the same engine, had the same type of combat and units, and some base/city building from what I recall but was mostly story driven and in fact only features a campaign mode. I liked it, but I also missed the freedom of the original to go on an open-sandbox campaign and/or multiplayer skirmish just tinkering with cities and resources and then ****ing up the world with aircraft carriers.

well according to reviews, the people pissed off at it are mad they are charging for a remake, or had technical issues. The promoters have tens to hundreds of hours of play recorded. Seems like a winner.
