Wondering if we will have the same scenario as we did last month on the bank holiday, where payment didn't go in on the Friday night at midnight?

Yes, but its nothing to do with Child Benefit lukesmom, its the Banks issue, and the bank are blaming SEPA.

I got it on the Friday night last month, same as normal bank holiday weekends.
I'm Bank of Ireland if that makes a difference?

This was never anything to do with the government, the official line from the CB department even before SEPA was that payments would be made on the first Tuesday of every month but people copped on that because of the way the banks worked that the payments were going in on Saturday. That was brilliant for those who could have used the money a few days earlier, but now the banks have changed their rules and the payments won't hit the accounts until the day they are actually supposed to be there.

We can't really moan about it, just start budgeting for an extra 3 days on Bank Holiday months from now on.

Pity could have really done with it tomorrow :(

It's great that this issue was highlighted last month, so people could budget for it.

I know people that got it into their accounts on the Saturday last month. When I rang my bank the last Saturday that my Cb wasn't there.... They subbed me!! I'm expecting it to be there tomorrow morning.... Will I be ringing them again!? Lol

If you are with the BOI then the chances are you will get it as they aren't SEPA compliant yet. I believe all other banks operating in Irealnd are compliant at this stage.

Then why did my bank concede it was a mistake that my money wasn't there and sub me? I am confused! :)

Honestly i can't answer that and going by the confusion surrounding the payments and SEPA i'd say it depends on which staff member or branch you went into.

All the SEPA compliant institutions have to wait for the date on the transfer for the funds to be available to you, which also means payments taking longer to credit accounts, not being there at bang on 12am. It's a bit of a farce really as they can take payments earlier so esb might try and take their money early but your wages will no longer hit your account early.

Sounds absolutely ridiculous. Oh well nothing I can do about it, but ill check in the morning and let you know. Wouldn't you imagine if they subbed me last time they would have said look this is a one time dig out, as it will work like this in future. I had rang the open24 service with TSB

So the bank staff were kind enough to break the rules (probably) to give you a dig out on the last public holiday and now your complaining that they didn't tell you at the time that it was just a once-off?? Lol just goes to show that no kindness goes unpunished !
Basically those with BOI will probably be in payment as usual, all other banks, just tough.
We don't need to have this hand wringing every public holiday Friday, do we?Child Benefit is paid first Tuesday of every month. End of.

No knicker twisting lukesmom. There's a risk of mums being back here August BH , Halloween and Christmas wondering if their going to get their CB on the Saturday. It won't ever be again.
Blaming bank staff who were only being kind last month is unfair and ungrateful. This is why customer service agents can't be flexible. It always comes back to bite them on the bum.

I didn't realise it was a dig out as I said. They apologised and agreed to credit me some money to see me through for a few days as I had a zero balance. It was a matter of whether my family could eat for the weekend. I am happy for you if that's never the case for you. I wish I was the same and it mattered none what date the money was credited. Not everyone is as lucky.

I do appreciate whomever it was that showed it to me that day, and thankful it wasn't you on the other end of the line ;)

You are missing my point, I have worked on the basis for years now, not just for CB, for salary also that weekends and holidays and bank holidays that you will see your money in 'early' if the date a certain way. When I made the call the last bank holiday Saturday, if the agent said, look this is what we will do for you but please note that this is how it will work from now on then I wouldn't be sitting here on Friday night thinking **** there will be no money in my account tomorrow. I have read all the official SEPA leaflets and this scenario wasn't communicated to me.

I spent that weekend short of cash too.Plans had to be changed. But I just accepted that a loophole had been closed, and that it was my own fault for relying on "never never" money.
I certainly accepted that the loophole was closed forever and I budgeted differently for this weekend.
Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me!
I also found out after the last weekend, that the loophole being closed had been forewarned on both the radio and in the newspapers. I didn't spot it. It can't be helped.

Can you point out where it had been pointed out on the radio and in newspapers because I missed it too!

Time to start budgeting for an extra 3 days on BH weekends guys.

My 'short of cash' was no money whatsoever. My 'plans to be changed' would have been eating.

I spoke to a bank official that told me that it was their fault. Apologised and did an extraordinary thing by crediting me some money as he could obviously see that I had no access to any other credit. All I was pointing out, not criticising him for his kindness, was that I would have benefitted from him mentioning at that point that things were going to be different for future payments.

I didn't spot it either, and even though I watch the news and read the newspaper, it looks like our plans for eating this weekend must change again.

Someone had been onSean O'Rourkes radio show on the Thursday morning prior to the May BH from PermanentTSB stating quite categorically that it was outside of their control, and that it was to be a permanent arrangement. I think I probably err so far on the side of caution that I'm consistently surprised when any money, including my wages, is ever credited to my account at all.
I just naturally took it for granted that there would be no CB this weekend.

I'm not getting into a competition with you as to which of us is poorer. But if I had spent the last public holiday weekend with no food to give my family because there was a change in arrangements about a SW benefit, then I would have made damn bloody sure that they didn't have to go hungry again this weekend.

Omg are you even reading what I am saying?? I didn't spend the last public holiday weekend with no money for food because the bank told me IT WAS THEIR FAULT!! Where in that was supposed to tell me that I was at fault if it happened again?

    I give up.

BOI customers get it 1st apparently because the government bank with them so there is no external transfer.

this is not a State Benefits issue. Child Benefit is paid on the first Tuesday of the month, even on Bank Holiday weekends. This thread has become more about SEPA and/or budgeting, which technically aren't State Benefits related so this thread will now be closed.
