I have a friend (61) on S Class PRSI. She is has been a proprietory director of a company for the past 20 years, the business has now closed and she has no current income. She has too much means (assets) for JSA.
I advised her to sign on at the local SW office for at least the State pension PRSI credits but they said she would have to pay a minimum annual figure to Revenue with her annual return to maintain her rights to a full contributory Old Age Pension. There is a minimum annual contribution apparently of €500.

    Does this all sound correct?

    Thanks

    P

    That is correct

You can qualify for credits only if you:

have worked and have at least 1 PRSI paid contribution at PRSI Class A, B, C, D, E or H
    and

have paid or credited contributions in either of the last two complete income tax years.

You can't sign for credits with S Contributions.
