Well done for gettin through the interview. Now it's just a fitness and medical test that awaits us.

    Is everyone training?

Thought I'd just continue with a separate thread as we've done from the beginning.

Ah that's brilliant. Sure hopefully I'll be seeing a few boardsies down there

In past classes, boardsies met up prior to the start of training, and it was very helpful to them I think!

"Subject to you complying with the educational qualification requirements
set out for this campaign, your name is being forwarded to An Garda
Síochána in order to be considered for Stage 5"

"The Public Appointments Service is currently completing qualification
    checks."

Still haven't sent names to AGS then until this is sorted. So I would say it will be next week before we hear anything on medical physical.

I reckon they just got sick of people asking them so released the results prior to full qualification checks.

Anyone have any idea what's in the medical? Are there criteria published anywhere that the medical people use as a reference? Worried about a few things, including my teeth. I think I need some fillings but I'm no dentist so can't say for sure. Have always looked after my teeth to avoid the need to go to the Dentist, of whom I am absolutely petrified. Throw me into an angry mob but keep me away from dentists.

Just got an e-mail. Open day in colleges on Thursday/Friday/Saturday next week to go through what's involved in Physical! :)

Book an appointment at the dentist today! Getting a filling isn't as bad as it used to be.
There are other threads on here that detail what is involved in the medical. Sorry I'm not able to post a link

Haven't received anything either. I'm outside the top 150.

    Taking it in batches maybe?
To be honest, just thankful I passed. I know I'll be called up it's just a matter of when now.

I received a mail for the Open Day too (placed in the 60s). Want me down next Thursday but there's no chance of me getting the day off work.

I tried calling but the person looking after the schedules is not in the office today.

I also won't be able to attend - its way too short notice!!! Must ring up and see if attendance is mandatory.

Yes agreed. Therefore I wont be able to make the "Open Day" as I want to keep the last minute notice days off for the medical and PCT which will be probably two days off in the next fortnight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭BRB

Got the open day email. Down on Friday!

Wonder how short of a notice medical and PCT will be or even starting in templemore.

I'd get them checked. At least if they find anything you can get it fixed before the medical so they don't fail you.
If you've been working for the last 4 years, you should be entitled to a free checkup from your PRSI credits. I went for one a few weeks back and everything was fine.

They won't have dentist on site I imagine. A medical usually doesn't involve dental unless it's clear you have scurvy or something from looking at your gums.

They will take your pulse, your blood pressure, cholesterol maybe, check your eyes and ears, record the dreaded BMI and probably a few other things. Lungs for example (breath in, breath out - see how far down the air gets, important for smokers).

Wats the minimum requirement for someone under 25 in the bleep test? Is it above 8.7 or 8.9?

I know it's not the same thing but when I did the defence forces medical it had the following.
    Eye test
Hearing test (Wearing headphones in a soundproof booth and pressing a button whenever you heard a beep).
    Lung capacity.
    Chest X-ray
    Dental check
    Urine sample
    Blood samples
Physical exam by a doctor to check for fallen arches etc (This was done by an elderly female doctor while I was bollock naked)
Also had her hold my scrotum while I coughed for some reason?

8.8. I haven't seen them mention whether it's lower for old folks like me. I've been aiming for 8.8.

I've to be in Templemore at 09.30 on Saturday.
The earliest train from Dublin arrives there at 9.02.
Would I have enough time to walk to the college?

Got mine provisionally changed to Saturday morning (early start leaving from Dundalk).

I was also advised that it is not mandatory to attend but highly recommended. Was asked to inform them if I couldn't/wouldn't make it though so they can open up another place.

Just to speculate on the numbers that passed the interview....as per the email from Garda HRM, if there are 5 'open day' sessions in Templemore, each one with 40-50 people, does that mean a max of 250 passed the interview?
