They 407's are fine but have certain things to look out for when buying....if your after the 1.6 hdi then a full Service History is critical when buying..!!

    Some good info here...:)

My 407SW 1.6 is a piece of junk and I will replace it as soon as we can afford to. I live in Wicklow and do 80 miles to and from work four times a week. It has consumed one DPF, many, many bulbs, tyres, suspension bushings, several plastic fittings on the injection system, injectors all replaced, a dip stick (snapped off in my hand), various engine seals and various odds and sods like fiddly plastic buttons to hold trim panels in place. It also loves to give warnings on the message panel (same panel loves to fade out).It also requires Eloys oil for the DPF, which an expensive trick from the French manufacturers..On the plus side, I get a thousand km out of a full tank, without caning it. The old 407 saloon with the 1.9 is a much stronger beast.........my wife's 1.9 Picasso is entirely trouble-free by comparison, but rolls like a boat compared to the Peugeot.
I'll never buy a French car again.

My 407SW 1.6 diesel is a piece of sh..!
Stay away I'm telling you. Failed on NCT last time on emission. Went to mechanic and the engine needs to be replaced. Its taking the oil. Its not worth it to fix easier to replace it.
Not mentioned about other issues. Dashboard is like fu.... Christmas Tree. Temperature sensor goes crazy every day and computer asking me to stop! Heater once works once not.
The computer screen is blury so you can barely see anything on it.
The only good thing is the fuel consumption nothing else.

Stay away from it. My one is only 180km and needs new engine.

    Stay away!!!
