Hi my 2004 Mondeo failed the NTC very badly on Emissions.
Both high idle and low idle were over 6% pass is 0.30% The Lamda and other parts of the Emissions test seemed fine.

The fella said it was so bad he had to disconnect it from the machine as with that high a remding it could break it.
He said it was very smoky. I never noticed the car as being smokey and everything else is running grand with it.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic around the dundrum area? and what should I get them to be checking for?

    Thanks

Doesn't sound good unfortunately , rings most likely gone , in other words terminal on an 04. Mondeo , quiet a common problem. You won't notice oil smoke because of the cat.

rev the car while in neutral for about 10 seconds (or get someone else to do it) up to about 4-5k revs.

check and see what kind of smoke comes out.

    probably burning oil.

You'll be looking for a second hand engine with low miles i'd say, but not well up on fords. best of luck with it :(

Taking a chance on secondhand engine that's known to burn oil might be not be wise , but it might come cheap, they're plentiful.

    Thanks for the advice lads,
Is there anyone you could recommend in south dublin to take a look at the car to see if its repairable?

I don't really want to trow money into it if there is only a chance of fixing it.
