UTVINTERNET are deleting email accounts

    I have had two free email accounts with UTVinternet for many years.

    Months ago they informed subscribers that the free service was being discontinued but that it would be possible to keep an email account on payment of an annual fee of €25. Subscribers were invited to fill in a form and UTV undertook to contact those affected by phone.

    I sent off the online form for both of my accounts. Nobody contacted me about payment. About a week ago, one of my accounts stopped working.

    I called UTV email support this morning and I was told that it had been decided to delete all the affected accounts by the end of June. I was also told that this was because only a few hundred people had returned the online form with a view to paying €25 per account and it was not financially viable to continue to provide the service.

    I complained that if this were the case, then they should have replied to those who returned the form, or at the very least have put a notice on their website about what they were doing rather than just deleting the accounts of people who expected to be contacted.

    They agreed to reactivate my account so that I could move or delete individual emails, but said that the account will be deleted again "at any time" before the end of June.

    I now have GMail accounts to replace the UTV ones.
