    Hi
Can anyone tell me where I can go in Dublin to get the history and value of a watch? I think its from a war time perhaps a soldiers watch as it has an army green strong material strap on it.

Can you upload a few pictures here?

You've a good chance that one of our expert horologists could help....

What's the name on the dial? That would be a good starting point. Photos would definitely make a huge difference lilimarilyn. Chances are you'd get an identification anyway, value is another thing as it has so many variables.

Recently Boards has brought in a 50 post limit before someone can attach photos/links, but if you like you can private message me the photos/links and I'll put them up for you.

My take? Nice watch. Tudor Oyster(Tudor being a sister company of Rolex). Screwdown crown for water resistance and the threads look ok too. Age? late 40's early 50's? In great condition with it. Military style anyway, going by the dial layout. I say military style, rather than military watch for a couple of reasons. "True" military watches are considered to be examples that were issued by an army, navy, airforce to the troops. These nearly always have stampings on the case back to show this. Yours has a serial number alright, but I don't think it's an issued piece. That's not to say a military guy wouldn't wear such a watch. He most certainly would have, as this would be a very tough watch for the time. A G shock of its day. :) The strapbars interest me though, could they be solid?

As for the strap. That's what's known as a NATO(orG10) strap. It was and is a military issued strap. They first came out in the early 1970's in the UK. Nowadays you can get them from non military sources in all sorts of funky colours and sizes. The originals were only admiralty grey. So it's a few decades younger than your watch*

That's my take anyway, others more up to speed with Tudors will doubtless add much better info.

*and incorrectly installed. This page will show you how it's done. http://www.natozulu.com/content/9-nato-strap-instructions

Thanks for helping with the photos. Thanks so much for the information too I really appreciate it. The watch was given to me by my Dad a while ago he can't tell me where he got it from he has alzheimers. Perhaps it will be our family heirloom!

Well all I can say lilimarilyn is that is a very cool watch and a quality one on a few levels and something to hang onto and treasure. Its history, if we knew more could well be something worth knowing. And it's a watch that will, with a bit of care, keep on trucking for a few more generations. Hell of a cool legacy present from your dad.

Thanks for your help with this. Do you know where I could get a valuation for this watch I would like to have some idea of it's worth too.

That's a very nice watch. The best way to get an idea of value is to check out sold items on Ebay. Are there any numbers located between the lugs at either 12 or 6 (for example a 4 digit number, possibly beginning with 7) - if there are then this gives you the case reference which should allow you to narrow down your search. Obviously if what you actually need is a valuation then I'm sure somebody else can advise.

Wibbs - I suspect that the watch is fitted with shoulder-less spring bars. This is the only Tudor Oyster I've had and you get at them from the outside - as it were.
