What? Generally if a musician/band was any good they would have been picked up by a big label.

    Strongly disagree with that.

    Even their 80's albums? Naw.

I have a soft spot for Freaks.
But DC is definitely the weakest of their 'popular era' albums, and has dated badly.

The Frames are one of the most tedious and smug bands going

This sounds like my idea of hell

(the music, not the open-bar bit!)

You can add The Script and The Coronas into that.

The Coronas really boil my blood, especially that "San Diego" song.

I have to bite my tongue whenever those bands come up in conversation.

claiming Kodaline & The Script are sh!t is hardly an unpopular opinion (the latter aren't remotely alternative either).

You'd be surprised, judging by my facebook feed today then Kodaline are very, very popular with a lot of people.

Maybe I'm friends with the wrong people?

    Fair point on The Script.

I seen James Vincent McMorrow's latest album getting included in the likes of Nialler9's top albums of 2014 so far. It bored me to tears. Absolutely dreadful album.

Horrendous stuff from 4 gob****es from Terenure thinking they're yanks.

The Thrills were doing the same thing 12 years ago

Woah woah woah, no need to drag The Thrills down to this level.

Young Nialler is earning big bucks on TXFM now where they heavily promote that album, so that might have something to do with it

I really liked The Thrills for what they were and I thought the criticism they got was way O.T.T.

People hated them because they were from well-to-do families. The same reason Mark Greaney used to get dogs abuse.

Greaney knew the score though, his lyrical neuroses weren't all summer bbq's, forgotten teenage unrequited love and longing to escape to 'Big Sur'

Still, it's annoying to hear people writing off JJ72 because they're nothing but posh boys (and girl)

They were probably my favourite band back in the day - obsessed over them, travelled the length and breathe of the country to see them when I was 15 and should have been studying for my Junior Cert :)

I doubt he's on 'big bucks' and the album has received pretty universal acclaim.

Could see how someone could find it boring though, good unpopular opinion. :pac:

For the record, I love it.

Don't really like McMorrow myself but it did also make top 10 albums of 2014 so far in the Guardian.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

McMorrow's album was excellent. I guess his type of singing isn't everyone's cup of tea but to me it was a really good album that showcased his voice impeccably.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,846 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

I think JJ72 are very overrated.

Not from Ireland, no idea what kind of families they were from, I still couldn't stand them because the singer's voice is just awful.

    I liked JJ72 btw
