Im on a tight budget and want to buy something in dublin. Want to spend about €300 but am willing to stretch it if its a good bike. Im looking for a good roadworthy mountain bike or hybrid, preferably with mudguards.....

    Any ideas?

Second hand, I'd say. If you're on for second hand, check adverts.ie, or better keep an eye on the "Cycling adverts" linked from this forum.

Will be posting one there myself when I've cleaned it up!

Adverts.ie is good, just check the seller has lots of positive feedback and hasn't sold 3 bikes in the last month

I bought a Trek Pilot 2nd hand for €350 at my LBS. If I went on the bike to work scheme it would have been 1/2 that.

Carrera Subway hybrid is around EUR330 and pretty ok at the price. Carrera TDF roadbike is closer to EUR400

You can't use bike 2 work on second hand cycles unfortunately.

    Not legally anyway!
Does the scheme apply to second-hand bicycles and/or safety
    equipment?

No. The scheme applies only to new bicycles and cycle safety equipment purchased
from approved providers. A list of providers is available on the Office of Public
    Works website.

Actually come to think of it the last 2nd hand bike I bought on the Bike2Work scheme, the shop changed the name of the bike on the invoice.

Carrera TDF 14 on sale in Halfords Cork yesterday for €320. Trying to persuade to my OH that this would be a worthwhile investment!
