I found an interesting article from Pelz on golf.com when looking for ways to lower my handicap.

The title of the article is dave-pelzs-fast-new-ways-lower-your-handicap

As a regular follower from Boards I had implemented few tips but I thought my putting was good relative to my handicap.

I was surprise to see the category 10-25 feet as makable putts category. As for me anything over 10 feet away is 2 putts. As I always try to leave myself with a short 2nd putts

10 foot is only ~3M...I'd be looking to make that, but not upset if I didn't.
Obviously if its a big, screaming, downhill bender then I'm lagging it up.

Oh nothing worse than those screaming benders :pac::pac:, but surely wouldn't you be lagging it down there as oppossed to up.

I wont hear a word against Justin Hawkins!

I lag it up to the hole as opposed to past the hole...

The best player this year from 10ft is Josh Teater and he has only made 68% of his 10fters in the 2014 season.

There are 195 players on the list for the stat (Darren Clarke last with 27%!) and no. 98 has only made 38.89% of them this year.

So if the average tour pro only makes 38% of 10ft putts, I think we should have our expectations set accordingly.

Disagree with that statment, the pros are putting on tournment speed greens with lots of break.
Also lowering your expectations is never good, I expect to make all putts regardless you will always get it closer than you think if you try to lag.

The way i read it is for anything between 10-25 putts you should try to hole it but you should also have the distance control so you don't finish miles away past the hole

As said previously the pros don't hole everything out so you shouldn't kick yourself for missing an over 10 feet putt

So because the best "only" makes 68% I shouldn't even try?!
I think thats pretty ridiculous tbh.

Should I also not try to hit every fairway or green in regulation? Or perhaps get up and down from bunkers?

When you mentioned that you "would be looking to make it", I read it that you expected to make a 10ft putt. Expecting to make a 10ft putt can lead to a lot of frustration for amateurs.

If you didn't mean it as expecting to make it, I read it wrong, sorry.

The pros practice putting a lot more than amateurs, are more talented, have excellent coaching available to them and putt on much more reliable surfaces.

Expecting to make putts is different than trying to make them. Acknowledging the low success rate of 10ft putts for amateurs leads to better acceptance when you don't make one, in my opinion.

I'm trying to make them, but as I get further out I'm not disappointed with a miss, though I would be expecting it to be in danger of going in!

I'll get annoyed if I miss from 6 foot, not one or two, but more than that I feel I'm below where I should be.

Doubt they would have ever became pros in the first place if they listened to this advice. I just think you need high expections if you want to improve.

For me its the same thing, I don't expect a putt to go in unless I at least try to aim it in the hole.

Peltz talks a lot of ****e and just wants to sell his books and gimmick training tools.
I think a lot of those guys make golf more complicated just so they can sell stuff, its big business.

Putting is one area that is easy to improve on. Getting the ball past the hole every time will improve the % of putts you make. I find it very hard myself with Birdie chances the last thing you want is to 3 putt so you baby it up to the hole making very few putts.

This does my nut in- the rare chance I have for birdies I bloody nurse it up to hole and miss- idiot!!!
