Renewing 1st Provisional

My partner's 1st provisional license is out of date.

She's currently away, but needs the license as soon as she's back.

I have her old license, updated passport photos, proof of address and completed renewal form (and of course the 35 euro).

Can I drop this to the application centre or does she need to do it herself in person?

She'll need to go into her local NDLS centre when she gets back. You can not do a renewal via the post anymore, nor can someone else do it for you. They no longer use passport photos. They will take a photo of her at the NDLS centre and use that for her new learner permit.

As you have her driver number (from the old permit) you or she can make an appointment at your local NDSL centre to renew the permit. Until she gets back, that is all you can do. She won't be handed the permit on the day btw. It will be posted out to her in a few weeks. You can locate your local NDLS centre and make an appointment at ndls.ie.

The postal (and an online) renewal system will be introduced later this year, so all customers who present once will not have to present again. This is to tackle fraud that was a problem in the old system. The new system also affords customers a degree of privacy in a dedicated booth rather than everyone knowing your business as you waited in the line at the old MTO. Wait times for licences are also down to about 8 days as the old backlog is now cleared.

As much as you can do is book the appointment for her in the NDLS office.

Hello, didn't want to start a new thread for my question.

My old provisional has expired, and I need to renew it. The form I was sent relates to renewing an existing licence. What do I need to do to renew the expired one? I can't get get a clear set of information from the website.

    Thanks.

If your licence has a 992 or 993 notation on it then you will need proof of having failed a driving test or applied for one. The permit can be out of date up to 5 years without losing your entitlement. You will need to bring the above, plus a completed 'learner permit' application form, proof of your Ppsn number, your old permit, and the fee of €35. Proof of change of address if required in your case. Might also be wise to prebook your appointment or be at the office before 9am to be assured of same day appointment :)
