I have always thought it was Labour, but maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking at the launch of JobBridge, the new National Internship Scheme today (Wednesday 29th June 2011), Joan Burton TD, the Minister for Social Protection, said she was very encouraged by the positive feedback from many employers to the new National Internship Scheme.
This was a Fine Gael / Labour coalition

Jobbridge is a good idea, but most companies took advantage of it to save money..

In somewhat of a defence of Labour (not something I normally do) this shows the power of lobbyists (Lawerence Lessig an IT/Law theorist noted the activity)when it comes to drafting laws. Not so much their money, but them acting as sources of information for an ill-informed minister. Presenting the jobbridge as a solution to inexperience in the workplace but in reality as a means to save wages on staff.

If JB workers were paid the dole and the rest of the salary made up by the employer it would be a pretty neat idea.

In its current state it's a farce.

I honestly think it's a good scheme but a good deal of internships that where put on it have been a joke of the highest order . I actually think it would be great if they fixed it up and then it would work wonders for all involved .

Agreed - employers should have to bring up the wage to minimum wage level and they should not be allowed to offer an internship in developing the skill of packing shelves.

Jobbridge morphed from the Work Placement Program. The social welfare site shows a description of it dated 28/07/2010. This was a similar scheme only it was unpaid. So the previous government should be given some of the credit / blame for it.The two criticism must surely be
Public sector bodies are using it in what seems to be a method of avoiding the recruitment embargo
