My brothers sram force left shifter has stopped working , thinks something broke in the ratchet mechanism . Is it possible to get a kit to overhaul the shifter or will he have to buy a new one @ €175ish

Sram levers are not serviceable / repairable. I damaged my right lever a while back and ended up having to buy a pair of levers. As a result I have a brand new / unused left Rival lever. I know yours is a Force lever so it's not a perfect match but if you are interested let me know, it will be a lot cheaper than a new pair of levers.

That if you are feeling ambitious, you may be able to cannibalise the broken lever and my Rival lever by swapping the brake levers so that you will have two "Force" levers. I can't comment on the feasibility of such but it may be an option.
