Anyone having problems with their Magnet Fatpipe in Rochestown, Cork? Mine has been out since Friday afternoon with a red Internet light on the router. Reported it to Magnet, but they are blaming Eircom as usual. Supposedly Eircom customers are also affected.

Eircom eFibre customers in Maryborough Hill, Rochestown Road and Shamrock Lawn have all been having problems since Friday afternoon. As I speak, they have no internet access at all. The problem is an intermittent one with the internet coming and going. It is an Eircom problem. No commitment from Eircom as to when it will be fixed. It does not affect non eFibre customers, so if you have ADSL2+, you will not be affected, only VDSL2 is affected. Other vendors such as Magnet who use Eircom's infrastructure are also affected.

I'm also in the same area, as of 2pm today it appears to be back to normal at least for Eircom eFibre (fingers crossed).

Hi, I have magnet fatpipe service. Living in Glanmire, Co. Cork. Got it installed back in November '13..... 40 mb/s down. 10 mb/s. Happy days, everything was working fine. I was getting 38mb/s consistently. However since about March, we've been having frequent outages where the internet goes completely. When it's working we seem to be getting the full speed but then it just goes and can be half an hour waiting for it to come back after restarting router. It happens a few times a day. I've emailed them twice about it. The first time, I got a reply from someone saying that they would investigate it further. I heard nothing back and then I emailed again and got no reply. I'm annoyed with the poor customer service for a start but really I just want answers now. If I switch to a different provider (since magnet have no contracts ) am I going to have the same issue with all vdsl providers?? Can anyone guess what the problem might be. Could it be that the router isn't fully compatible with the Eircom vectoring update, or is it a basic line fault. I've reset the settings on the router twice and it doesn't help. I connect through ethernet cable as well as wifi so don't blame the wifi! The other annoying thing now that i'm on the subject of Magnet is that their phone service is VOIP so every time we have an internet outage the phone service goes too. This means that if I want to call Magnet support during an outage I can't. (Their no. is 1850 or 1890 which isn't included in my mobile plan and I get charged a bomb for it so I haven't rung their customer service yet).
You'd think that they would get back to me with the 2 emails I sent though. I included my mobile no. in both emails hoping that they'd give me a call. Any help/advice would be appreciated. I literally can't be dealing with a string of 'press 1 for this, press 2 for that etc". If anyone could give me a direct email for someone in tech support??

Having same issue since last day of march, umpteen calls to them, nothing is resolved. They are blaming eircom cabinet issues. Originally I was told there was only 15 people affected, I understand the number is signifigantly higher now, still with no resolution though. if it is an eircom issue, no point in changing to another similar package from another provider surely as you would be on the same hardware?

To the best of my knowledge, the issues affect pretty much all of the Magnet Fiber customers living in Cork. I know people down in Douglas, all the way up to those around Blackpool - and each one has issues with Magnet during peak hours.

Sad thing is that Magnet doesn't really seem to give a crap about it.

is this still an on-going problem. living in maryborough woods area
looking for a new provider currently with digiweb wireless and wanted to give efibre a try with magnet as the no contract appeals to me.

i've been reading about how magnet cap download speeds during peak times but i think that isn't an option anymore as i think they have removed there cap.

also reading not they don't allow FTP at full speed.

And now this... kinda a bit hesitant in switching. digiweb is only alright, streaming is crap and regular drop off of connection. so hense the reason to move.

any info from magnet used in maryborough area on the above issues, are they still ongoing

Magnet haven't been enforcing a cap, but - based on performance in Cork over the last 3+ months, they don't need to - as the internet usage is untenable during peak hours (18:15 -> 00:15). Online Gaming is impossible due to huge packet loss issues, hell - even something as simple as chatting on Skype is unfeasible as you drop so many packets the other person in the call is unintelligable.

Literally the only thing Magnet has going for it right now is the lack of a contract for it's eFibre services. I've had a couple of friends switch from Magnet over to Eircom because of these issues, and the issues have cleared up - so I don't buy the whole 'it's Eircom's Cabinets' excuse.

Given the choice right now, I'd honestly recommend UPC -> Eircom -> Any other provider -> Magnet atm.

    Hi Izmak,
    thanks for the speedy reply.

it's something to seriously think about alright.
the problems you describe are what i'm experiencing with digiweb at the moment.
    it down right sucks.

but i'm out of contract with them so can leave anytime.
I've eircom in family home in limerick.. even though i can achieve the 100mb, only getting 30mb it's rock solid with low ping times.
bit of a pain getting it initially right from them but happy so far..

guess it's back to drawing board and weight up my pros and cons

    thanks again for the info
