Has anyone tried washing clothes with Fairy Liquid or shampoo?

Hi I was recommended to wash running clothing in Fairy Liquid, did so, also threw in some baking powder, well rubbed it into a foundation stain, later added a squirt of shampoo. It was a handwash obviously and on the line now.

Has anyone tried any of these and what was the result? any other suggestions?

    Thanks
    K

I got liquid foundation on a cream blouse. Put a dot of washing up liquid on the stain and washed as normal. Blouse came out good as new :)

Edit to add I use baby shampoo to wash cashmere in the machine or hand wash delicates

Makes sense in a way. Washing up liquid is made to deal with oily, fatty stuff. I sometimes use a dab for a bad stain.

I've never done a whole wash with it though.

Its just soap so it can hardly do any harm, don't know why you'd bother handwashing running gear, its hardly delicate.

I've used baby shampoo to wash delicates in the past.
    Never had any problems.

I use washing up liquid to handwash the collars of my jackets when I get make-up on them. They come out perfect.

Don't put washing up liquid in your washing machine...

Shampoo no bother, do it all the time in the hotel sink when on holidays or camping, etc.

Fairy Liquid would be very different though, it is a very harsh detergent and so while your clothes will no doubt be clean, I imagine the fibres would get a lot of stress and you'd see fading and wear-and-tear very rapidly if you used it regularly. Make sure you do a massive amount of rinsing if you use it.

Edit - just you realised you mentioned specifically sports clothes - vinegar applied to the undersrms as a prewash works very well if your clothes still have a whiff of sweat even after washing. No need to rinse, just pour on vinegar, and bung in yhe machine in the usual way. Also, never use fabric softener with spotts fabric, it ruins their wicking abilities and won't absorb sweat.

I shared a house once with a girl whos parents ran a launderette / dry cleaners and she got me using washing up liquid on grease splashes on tops before putting them in the washing machine. It works great (yes im a messy fecker :-)
