I can't get car insurance... HELP!

    Hi,

I cannot get car insurance. I have tried every company I can find, along with insurance brokers. I have a provisional driving licence (for 5 years) and an open claim against my previous insurer from over 1 year ago (a minor incident which I was not at fault in yet has a reserve of €80,000, i have been told that this could go on for a lot longer). However, some insurance companies allow for open claims if under €75,000. I am 29 years old.

Can anyone please help me, as this will the first time in 5 years that I will not be able to drive, meaning that I will suffer regarding work and seeing my family?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Get a full licence!

    ^^^^^ This.

Surely driving for 5 years, one would obtain the minimum standard of skill required to pass a driving test.
if not, one should probably not be driving.

Your last insurer is obliged to quote you. If they refuse, contact the Irish Insurance Federation, who will compel them to quote

I'd try and get that claim closed and a full licence.

What's holding up the claim ?

This. Unless they have cancelled your previous policy for whatever reason then they should be giving you a quote. It might not be one that you like of course...

I do agree with others who say get your full license. Its about stacking the odds in your favour; an €80k open claim is bad enough, but very few insurers, if any (as you are seeing), are going to touch an unlicensed driver with that sort of a claim open.

Minor with a reserve of 80k? If you are not at fault (and that has been acknowledged) why is the claim still open?

In either case, I repeat as above....get full licence.
