US Market For Beef

I see the market is opening again soon.

There appears to be a premium attached to 'grass' fed beef when you order a steak in a NY restaurant so sounds like the yanks would have a demand for our product.

    Any views?

Heard during the week that larry won't even be wanting u 16 mth bulls next year. I'd say this market could be for grass fed steers only, heifers probably won't be wanted in case God forbid, they might have had sex and got pregnant. I wonder what's the catch if our beef is going to USA, Canadian beef here? Will the NY restaurant premium trickle back to us?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Id say that trickle will be pretty light by the time it makes its way to the producers pockets.

I know a 'foodie' across the Atlantic and the niche market over there (which in itself could be quite large), want grass fed, gm free beef. So the idea of giving cattle a protein top up over the finishing period wouldn't be their idea of pure 'grass fed' beef. Would be more of an organic output they require if anything.

Your right, there must be some catch... who knows what it is.

I have never been to the US so have no experience regarding beef sold in restaurants/shops.
However is their definition of "grass fed" a form of zero grazing. Not our definition of cattle running around the fields?

Not necessarily... They would have a few farmers with large grass holdings (plains) where cattle run free in huge open space.

How much per kg is grass fed beef selling for, do you know? Just wondering what the similarities are to ourselves.

Thanks for the link. It is not cheap - if I did my conversions correctly the two 12oz rib eyes are costing €26.40 for 680grms of meat.
From memory rib eye is selling at €19.99 per kg in my local independent supermarket but I will check tomorrow.
