Dilemma re: accepted job offer

    Quick question folks.

I recently accepted a job offer and handed in my 2 months notice to my current employer. So I have 5 weeks left of that notice to go (I finish on the 27th June). I'm happy to take the new job as it's a big improvement on my current situation.

However, I was contacted this week about a job in an exotic location that after some research, sounds amazing. Now this opportunity might come to nothing, but let's assume here for the easr of giving me advice that I'd get the job if I went for it.

Would it be a bad idea to pursue this potentially dream job? In aware I'd be burning a bridge, but I guess I just need some convincing that any sane person would pursue it (or convincing otherwise that I've accepted a job, and I should see it through!).

Anyone ever been in a similar situation before? I should add that the job I've accepted is a very specific skill set so they would be very angry if I ditched them at this stage.

Might not come to anything of course, and I'm probably getting ahead of myself but all part of due diligence, thanks :)

To me, you are in a great position here. Because you can be upfront with the other employer and tell them that you have agreed to accept a different role but are still keen to discuss what they have to offer. This will make them speed up their interview process (assuming you are a candidate that they want to hire).

I wouldn't even think twice about investigating the other position. People agreeing to join companies and subsequently not making the move happens all the time. Fundamentally it's just business.

Thanks guys, I don't think it's ever been in doubt that I want to at least see what the new place has to offer, I guess I was just looking for some comfort about the whole thing! The guys I have an offer from have been so friendly and accomodating and I was looking forward to working there (though not as much as this new place if it came to fruition!). But I guess they wouldn't hesitate to cut ties with me if my role was no longer available.

Thanks for validating what I was thinking already :D
