    Hi,

I am going to Canada for a holiday for 2 weeks.
I would like to cross the border into the US for a couple of days while I am over there.
Do I need a separate Visa?
If so, how do I apply for one?

    Thanks.

edit : I didn't read the question properly.

You do not need an ESTA if travelling to the USA by land link. You'll just fill in the 'old' I-94 form at the border crossing as we used to have to do so before the ESTA was introduced.

    Yes.

    You need to apply here...
    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Also, double check that the Candain visa allows you to enter Canada more than once.

Like travelling to the US from Ireland directly you can probably avail of the visa waiver, but need to get the ESTA beforehand
    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

this is valid for 2 years.

No problem re-entering Canada, Irish citizens do not need a visa for Canada.

Also bear in bind if you do cross the border by land a $6 fee to process your i94 is required in hard US currency only!

If travelling to the United States by land an ESTA is not required.
