Car Audio Issue - Advice Needed

    Hello All,

I have a toyota yaris 2002 and the sound just died on the radio there about 2 months ago. The display still works, you can still press the buttons and they show the stations but no sound. There is a cassette deck (yes I know but I use one of those cassette adaptors to listen to my ipod) and this also no longer produces any sound. Halfords won't touch it because they simply replace car stereos (as opposed to diagnosing why they don't work) and my mechanic said he'd need a bit more time to find out why it's not working but he's up to his eyes and I'm not counting on him getting back to me (he's a good mechanic jut not overly interested in radio-related problems). It's getting REAAAALLLLLY boring in the car now without the radio.

My question is this: As I have no clue about cars (and I mean no clue), am I better just bringing it to another mechanic or are there other places who could help? I'm wondering are there any places in Dublin who specialise in this stuff basically.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't mind paying to get whatever it is fixed or replaced - I just need someone who knows what they're doing to find the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmm. Humour me here - pull the battery for a minute or so, and reconnect it. Make sure you have the keycode for the radio.

I can certainly try this when I get home. As I've only owned the car for 5 years I don't have a lot of the original documentation. I presume I'd have to be sure I had the keycode first.

Well yes, the radio won't work after the power has been cut like that, until you punch in the code.

Your radio is not key coded so there will be no issues if the battery is disconnected. I have seen very often the fault you describe re no sound and I can tell you that it is certainly repairable.
