The European tour flagship event surely deserves its own thread?

I love this event, always have. A lot of ryder cup points on offer so should be a competitive Sunday. Hopefully Rory doesnt turn into a train wreck, I fear there will be even more eyes on him after his press conference today.

I see this is not on BBC (only had a quick look). Is that a new thing?

Lots of Irish to watch - really looking forward to this. I'd love Padraig to do well and I'd love to see Peter Lawrie get something out of this.

The Irish are off to a good start.
35 players on the course with 12 of them under par. 5 of them are Irish and all 5 are under par :)

Lowry still -6 tied second. Harrington tied 9th and McGrane is -3 after 5.

Play has been suspended since 12:45 due to threat of lightning.

Play resumed at half one. Lowry -6 after 15 now.

Just got home to watch the golf, turned on sky sports 4 and nothing but a black screen :(

Their scoring system was down a while ago, was watching Lowry and hadn't a clue what hole he was on or what score he was.

I am here on the course (well tucked up nice and warm with a beer in the media tent)

The weather is horrendous, all the power just went so I guess maybe lightening? Maybe that is why sky is down, I think they are broadcasting from here.

Lowry has had two more birdies and is -8 after 17.

Serious score, he did live there for nearly 10 years though but still some scoring

Peter Uihlein withdrew earlier too was that an injury also? I had him in my European Tour fantasy team - again - but he's not having much joy this season so far.

64 for Lowry great stuff, bit of a gap behind him, Marcel Siem must've went swimming on the last 2 holes.

Stop talking about Rory and the tennis players relationship.

Would love to see Lowry do really well.

Seems like the most normal lad playing golf especially if you follow him on twitter. That said i had a bit of twitter banter with GMAC a few weeks ago so thats my claim to fame!

Lovely round from Shane Lowry - delighted to see that. And very nice round from Harrington too - here's hoping.

Just watching the highlights now. Don't imagine they'll show much of the Laois man.

The problem is that when Rory plays, he gets the bulk of the coverage.....and of course, the bulk of the stupid comments from the commentators.

The defending champ had a bit of a nightmare yesterday, shooting 80.

2 shots they showed in the first 40 minutes. I fell asleep.

Offaly or is there some Laois joke im missing?

Really hope Lowry can kick on today and get into double figures under par. The course seems to suit his eye and he's obviously playing well.

    Poulter so unlucky there!

That's some cruel break for Poulter right there. Ouch.

Good stuff now from mcilroy. Having slipped away to -1 he's got it back to -4

If he can pick up a birdie from the last two holes and finish -5 he'd be in a great position. The conditions look like being very poor for the evening so can't see anyone going too far ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,613 ✭✭✭newport2

    Ah Harrington :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 369 ✭✭microsim

Shane Lowry four holes into his round and sky sports have shown him once... For a few seconds. He is in second place!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Carpo86

Martin Kaymer. Oh dear oh dear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,866 ✭✭✭Panrich

Bit clumsy at the fourth but conditions are very poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,077 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Scoring was not as good today, so Lowry's -2 was a great effort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,077 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Delayed start because of overnight rain, so it's three-balls - good for Damian McGrane who would have been going out on his own.

Why was McGrane going out on his own? Did his 3rd round partner withdraw? He was first on the +2 in the clubhouse so last of them out today.

I think it might just have been uneven number making the cut. Anyway, he is level par so far, on what looks like a difficulty day for scoring.
