She's been a close friend for many years, we did get it on once or twice but thats all it was, which we both wanted.

Anyway I met up with her in town yesterday and something came up that is really bothering me and makes me see females in a completely different light . She's as down to earth and normal as the rest of us, nothing there that you would call psychotic or weird, just normal.

She proceeds to tell me how she is now 33, established in her career but has nothing apart from that. The next thing is the weird part that is making me feel fudged up.

She tells me she has talked it over with her girl friends sister etc and they think she should, and she's going to go get knocked up.She doesnt care who the father is, just an unlucky fella who brings her home one night.

On the one hand I can see she wouldn't be struggling raising a child on her own, far from it.But on the other hand she seems like a psycho bitch who I dont want to deal with anymore.I dont know if she was hinting on me knocking her up either.

So basically, from a woman's point of view should I save her and bang her up? on a strictly professional basis?, Also makes me wonder if i have unwillingly and unknowingly knocked any crazy bitch up before....scary

Do the honourable thing and get her into shape

Noooope. She can come after you in 10 years and order 10 years of back child support.

I ahve female friends who have done that. Fair enough. If you want to be a parent and don't want to wait around, it seems like a sensible option.

As for asking you to be the dad. I doubt she ment that. She could probably do a bit better :)

You don't seem to be much of a friend OP, what with calling her a 'psycho bitch' and all.

Keep your mickey in your trousers, she sounds like she needs a new accessary. Tell her to go buy a handbag or new shoes.

Get a vasectomy and then offer to help her try for a baby for a few years.

Ask your wife if she'd mind you knocking her up. That should help you make your mind up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,512 ✭✭✭Muise...

If she didn't ask you to knock her up, while being open and direct about her plan to get knocked up, I think you'd only be embarrassing yourself with the presumption if you offered.

I do understand the thinking behind it, but I find it a bit disturbing how casual it is for a woman to lie to some fella on a night out to get a baby.

To be honest, texting her at the moment and she seems to keep bringing up how good I act with my nephews and stuff like that, so I think she is waiting for me to drop a hint which isn't going to happen.

Lie? As in "yeah, stranger, I'm on the pill." And it's not at all disturbing that some fella doesn't consider STDs and HIV?

That's pretty ****ed up alright, though i've known lads it's happened to before.

What the hell is wrong with some people?

Also, isn't this what sperm banks are for? Or do they even have sperm banks in ireland?

Don't you know if she has the right kind of clothes on, they can't get any STIs or anything. Or "looks clean". Whichever it was.

She wouldn't be the first woman to do it.
But it's messed up because sure, she seems financially capable now, but don't tell me she wouldn't hit the father up for maintenance down the line ;) I mean all the nappies, baby clothes, prams, paying for childcare all costs money.

Because lets be honest. If she did do it.... The father won't be Random Tom from navan who she knows nothing else about and cannot get in touch with. Oh no. It'll be Tom o'rourke, who she met in a bar, who lives in navan, who works at XXX, who lives at XXXX, who has two sisters, who drives a blue micra.... etc etc. The guy who she randomly met but gets to know everything about.

I know she is your mate, op. But thats such a cunt thing to even think about.

I know thats what's really grinding my gears.Shes typically normal in everyway and she seems to be getting the go ahead from other friends too. I just dont see how this is something to be able to do casually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭meoklmrk91

If it was me I would go to a sperm clinic and pick an anonymous donor, I really don't think it's cool to go ahead and make someone a parent without their knowledge and consent just because you want a kid.

Guys are lucky in that they can have kids whenever they want to, generally speaking. Women have that ticking clock, she's 33 now, say she meets someone in the next couple of months, they date for a couple of years before they get engaged, she's then 35, another year before the wedding, 36, trying for a year, 37, finally has her first, 38, that doesn't leave her much options, even if they skip the whole engagement/wedding stuff if she wants more than 1 or 2 she's going to have them back to back. After 35 it's considered a geriatric pregnancy, there is a higher risk of complications for mother and baby, it's harder to get pregnant with each year that goes by.

I don't think it's fair to call her a psycho bitch, yes she's going about it in all the wrong ways but she's being realistic, at 33 her options are very limited.

Send her a turkey baster with instructions on how to blow etc and a bunch of Red Roses. Remove the thorns first - as she obviously doesn't like pricks!

Well I wasnt going to make a list of female catagories of who may be capable of doing something like this,so I did what people generally do and generalised.

So you generalised an entire gender because you consider your friend to be a "pyscho bitch".

Does that seem like a mature and reasonable decision to make?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,848 ✭✭✭Andy-Pandy

I'm 37, single, and would love to be a dad. I'd seriously consider having a baby in this way if I was guaranteed parental guardianship and I got on well with the mother. I've given myself till I'm 40 and then I may go down the same route as her. Nothing wrong with it but it would have to be 100% above board.

"I must have forgotten to take the pill"

"Oh, I think he`s going to break up with me. I know what I`ll do, I`ll forget to take the pill, then when I`m pregnant he might stay with me!"

Crazy broody lady! Tell her to just get a dog or something instead in the meantime or adopt a child, or a sperm donor as somebody else mentioned!
