Finding it hard to lose weight for summer?

Hello, would really love it if someone could help me out here.

3 years ago, I was a bit overweight, about 12st 3lbs, until I went on Weightwatchers with my sister. I lost one stone exactly, and was so happy. But now due to college, and also the WW point change and not having another person as my help and motivation, my last weight check is now 11st 10lbs. I am not happy about this, as I can even feel that I put on the pounds.

Now I have a holidays in Mexico and we are leaving on the 21st of July. So I have roughly about 8 weeks and 5days.

So I am just wondering if anyone has any good tips on losing weights quickly for the next few weeks or any motivation tips?

It's just that my sister was so helpful with this because when she has a goal, she sticks to it and knows what foods are needed and what needs to be taken in moderation so it was easy for me to follow it.
(Like one square of dark chocolate for dessert, I was able to stick at that without going overboard, and this is coming from a self-confessed chocoholic)

Its just that it is very hard with the rest of the family, as they believe just eat less, and move more, and not eat junk food works. While that my work for some people, I find that with MY body, it loses weight easily when every meal is low-fat and healthy and in moderation.

With exercise, walking helped a lot, but when I got down to 11st 3lbs it didnt budge anymore because I needed to do more intense exercises to lose it. Which I don't mind but I find myself getting tired and sore after 10mins. I find myself getting bored as well, doing the same things again and again. At least walking got me out of the house.

I just need help in building a routine again. :)

You could probably loose a stone in 8 weeks alright. I think you should loose the Weight Watchers 'fat is the devil' mentality though. Fat is a necessary part of your diet and should make up 30% of your intake. Most low fat products have added sugar to compensate (yoghurts etc). The only exception I make is skimmed milk as I put away a fair bit of it and can't take the calorie hit!

I can only recommend what works for me but I think most would agree it's a sensible approach to nutrition.

    1. Download myfitnesspal and use it to track what you eat. Put what you currently eat in (be honest!) and it'll become fairly evident where you are going wrong.

    2. Use an online calculator to work out your BMR (the calories you require daily if you just lay in bed all day). There's a link in the stickies. As you are sedentary multiply that by 1.2 and you have your daily calorie requirements for maintenance. Eat 300-500 cals less than this and you'll loose weight.

    3. Eat real fool ie. as little processed food as possible. Avoid 'diet cereals' like Special K etc. Have porridge or eggs for breakfast.

    4. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Do a big shop for the week so you can make 3 meals a day and snacks from your kitchen. Bring your food to work. This takes a little time but is key. Try chicken salad with loads of veg for lunch or dinner leftovers instead of a sandwich. Don't buy treats (biscuits, chocolate) as part of your shop. I find if they're there they'll get eaten!

    5. Have a cheat meal once a week to keep you on track.

    6. Weigh yourself once a week at the same time.

    7. Do some weight training. Amazing for changing your body shape and assisting with weight loss (diet is the main influence tho).

That's what worked for me anyway. There's no magic formula to weight loss just preparation, knowledge and will power. Once you develop good habits though it becomes way easier and second nature.

    Good luck with it.

Have you tried Zumba? Some of the girls in my zumba were carrying extra weight, I would skip the class for a few months (being lazy) and see them again, its like the weren't a plus size to begin with.

Great advices from Typer Monkey above.

For me when I am trying to lose weight, there is only one way it works. When I'm focused and determined. And prepared to set a goal for myself and stick to it.

There is only one person who can help you lose weight. And that's yourself.

Your post makes too many excuses, your sister does not go to Weight Watchers anymore, WeightWatchers changed how they calculate points, your family believe in eat less, move more, you get tired exercising after 10 minutes. You get bored.

    They are all just excuses.

I've tried to lose weight in a half assed fashion before and I find unless I am 100% committed to making the changes for me, then it's not going to work.

Dont mean to be harsh, but if you know yourself what works for you (eating low fat and in moderation as you've said) you really need to find the willpower yourself.

Friends can motivate you by going to WeightWatchers etc with you, but if there is no one available, maybe it's time to go it alone.

Beyond diet, excercise. Not gym, but little things that, when added up, make a huge difference. Try walking everywhere.
