    Hi folks,

This is the most appropriate section of the forum I can find. Im looking to see if anyone has any information on a cereer in phlebotomy, and requirments to train. I am allready working as a paramedic in the ambulance service but because of an ongoing back injury, I cant see myself being able to last in this career with the amount of manual labour and heavy lifting involved. Does a person have to have a university nursing career before specialising in phlebotomy? Id appreciate if anyone had any information or guidance on this?

    Hi Subscriber,

No you don't need a degree in nursing although a lot have. Usually the hospitals train you up and cert you, but that's possibly different in every hospital. Just bear in mind phlebotomy is not a good career for those with bad backs. You are all day standing on your feet bending over patients, and if you are on the wards it's worse.
