    Hi,

What is the easiest way to remove 8 years worth of carbon build up on my exhaust tips? At the moment they are solid black.

I went at it briefly with WD40 and an old rag but wasn't getting anywhere.

Light steel wool and tardis work excellently for me every time :)

Is there any danger of the steel wool being too abrasive?

No, it's not coarse enough. The one I'm talking about is available from cleancar.ie HERE

Assuming the tip(s) are metal and not chrome add ons....
Spray of a tar remover and allow dwell. Rinse off. Fine grade steel wool give them a good scrub. Wipe with an olf rag. Buff up with a metal polish.
They might even need a wet sand with 1500 grit wet and dry. Then fine grade steel wool, then a metal polish and micrfobre to buff them up.

That's my plan for the GF's ones on her 318. They are in bits.
Few treatments of holtz tar remover did wonders. Just have to go to woodies and get a bit of steel wool to finish it off.

i was thinking of this the other day, any cleaning tips for bmw f10 m sports? They're black (not black from dirt but actual colour of exhaust tips) so not sure if i should just clean same as paintwork or any techniques or products to use especially?

Wouldnt polish the black finished tips. Detar if needed and then a microfibre and metal polish. Anything else will be too aggressive and could bring out a shiny chrome area. Best thing to do is keep on top of them. A quick rub of metal polish on your weekly wash.

Autosol metal polish + microfiber + time does great work.

Comforting to know that like 6 months later the whole exhaust system was changed.
