Multiplayer suggestions

My sister has moved to the UK and after what seems like a lifetime of nagging to get herself sorted, she has finally gotten a new laptop and a Steam account.

I'm looking for ideas of games that we can play together. Preferably nothing too expensive (or graphically intense - my machine isn't the best), although I don't mind waiting for things to come up on sale. Co-op or versus, it doesn't matter. It's just so we can play together and have a bit of craic and a chat once a week or so.

So far we've got Nidhogg and Monaco. I don't think there's any genre we're unwilling to try.

    Thanks!

Can't go wrong with Terraria. Sunk more hours into this than any other game in recent years. €9.99 and doesn't need a monster of a PC to run it

Team Fortress 2 is free. Great fun to play with people you know.

Orcs must die 2. you would be surprised how much fun co op tower defence game can be.

Terraria Co-op is just pure pleasure and awesomeness, but setting up server is a pain in a hole.

Borderlands 2 - Great co op fun too. Better in Co- op if you ask me.

Killing floor is a alot of fun. If she likes killing zombies!

Magicka - Classic and can give you a lot of giggles, when you kill each other by accident.

Portal 2 - I never tried to play it with a freind, but it should be great crack.

Saints Row 3 - a lot of fun, but make sure she is not easily offended.:pac:

    - Diablo 3
    - Portal 2
    - Smite/Dota 2/League Of Legends
    - Left 4 Dead 2 (I prefer the first one but apparently the maps have been brought over to the sequel)
    - Splinter Cell Conviction (fun in coop if you can deal with Uplay)

Most of what I was going to suggest has already been listed.

Saints Row 3 is a lot of fun and in co-op it's even better, but graphically it may push your machine past it's limits, so check first. I'd say the same of Borderlands (1 or 2), but again, excellent games.

Orcs Must Die 2 is a lot of fun and for a similar idea, check out Dungeon Defenders (the whole game + all its DLC is on sale here).

Dive Kick is awesome and deceptively simple.

Aside from that, the aforementioned freebies like TF2, LoL and DOTA2 are well worth investigating.

Cheers for all the suggestions so far.

I've actually spent 66 hours on Saints Row 3 (or so Steam tells me, to my shame), I can't believe I didn't think of it myself! I also have Terraria already so that's even better. We'll give those and the free games a go first and then start working our way through the list.

The best part is my OH can't complain about me gaming if it's also time spent catching up with my sister :D

If you liked Terraria, try Starbound as well. Very similar, but with a larger scope.

Borderlands 1/2 are also excellent in co-op.

Left4Dead and L4D2 to a lesser extent (both cheap, both better than average with varying difficulty levels, and they're co-op and player versus player)
both have the ability to use voice, as well as steam being able to do it too

Guacamelee! is a fine old laugh for up to 2.

Have a look at Warframe for magical cyberninjas in space, free to play, more fun with a team. Not hugely demanding on the computer.
