    Can anyone tell me what the number associated with each TV listing on the Irish Times is about?.. for example;

    For Monday, RTE-2 at 11:05 we have Soccer Republic followed by "65322819"

    would it be videoplus codes?
    (not suggesting that everyone looking up tv listings in the newspaper may still be recording to vhs :) )

    Videoplus codes all right.
    It is a little bizzare that they are still being published in the age of the electronic programming guide. The Sunday Times has them as well.

    There for the remaining analogue cable users here and in the UK most likely. 45,000+ official UPC analogue subscribers and maybe 10s of thousands of others with analogue recorders attached to other cable TV points in the house.

    The RTÉ Guide only has the codes for the traditional 8 Irish and UK PSB channels.

    Thanks for the info and the notes. Now that you say,, I remember these codes where they were 'new'. I lived in the UK and some remote's had a reader (IR?) which was able to scan the code right off the page. All the Best - jmb

    That was a different system, from Panasonic, before Videoplus came along. Videoplus codes were entered manually via the r/c.

    A VHS will work on Saorview (via TV or set-box), Freesat or Sky box. Still. The code won't select the correct channel, but I think you can edit that after entry to AV etc. I'm sure I tried it about 10 years ago on a Sky box with a VHS.

    There's information on Video+ and PDC which meant the recording would start at the right time even if the schedule was running late here:

    The Irish channels didn't have PDC so if programmes started/ended late tough luck. Similar situation exists today on Saorview if there are changes to the schedule the epg and now/next info isn't automatically updated - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=83430899&postcount=248
