Ford Focus fuel pressure sensor.

I have a 2008 ford focus TDCI 1.6. The engine malfunction alert was coming on in it so I brought it to a mechanic to plug it in. The fault that was coming up was the fuel pressure sensor.
I then went to the ford dealer to be told I have to buy the complete rack, which cost €360 not including fitting!
I see the fuel sensor is only €80 online.
Is this straight forward to fit? Anyone know of a person who can do this for me in the west??

    Thanks

Don't buy anything yet. What were your symptoms, low power, cutting out, hard starting? It could be something as simple as a dirty fuel filter.

No symptoms, Its just the engine malfunction light comes on maybe once a day.
About 3 weeks ago 10euros worth of petrol was put into it. I quickly filled it to full to dilute it.
It did not do anything to the car, just "engine malfunction" comes on the dash.

I brought it to an engine diagnostics guy in Galway and the fault that was coming on was the fuel sensor... He did reset it, but it keeps coming on..

    Thanks for answering..

What we need to do is get up live data from the engine with a decent diagnostic computer so you can see what its doing. I don't know what the code is so if ya can get that it might be easier to fix. It might be high pressure or low pressure or sensor open circuit etc. it might even be a dodgy fuel filter from the petrol going through it, who knows.

Put a fuel filter on i would be 99 percent sure that will fix your problem the fuel rail sensor usualy either works or it doesnt if it doesnt work car wont run simple as.

This is what the fault is..

That isnt a ford code i think the lowest number we have is 0167 so it could be just a low fuel pressure fault.

Stick the filter on and give it a go its no harm anyway and its cheaper than a rail :-)

Fuel pressure too low so, thats what that code means. A fuel filter is a good place to start.
If the fault is still there after that get desired fuel rail pressure and actual fuel rail pressure readings(with a diagnostic computer) and compare them. They should be roughly the same. Start eliminating problems.

It wouldn't be a "Ford" code. DTCs P0001 to P01000 are standard OBD-II core powertrain.

It says code 001 at the top. I,m not sure if that means anything..

there is no "P" before 001 the P is before the 0087 P0087

I changed the fuel filter and that did the trick, its working fine now so fingers crossed.
Its a sealed filter in them costing €75

    Thanks for the help all

As said start with the fuel filter. If you have to replace the whole housing which you do on the later mk2 not sure about mk2.5 then it's about 90 quid from ford and even micks garage is up around 70 for them there just expensive unfortunately.

Possibly a can bus fault or maybe an instrument cluster fault.
What did you read the faults with ??
