Driving abroad: Licence question

    Hi all,

I am due to sit my driving test this week and bad timing as it is, may need to drive to Europe a week afterwards.

I don't expect to get the full licence card in the space of a week - assuming I pass the test - but is there any chance that I can drive in Europe with whatever certificate/letter I get on the day of the test stating that I have passed?

    Thanks

Best check with the car hire company, some will also have terms that you need to have a driving license at least 1 year, as well as loading for under 25's.

    Short answer, no.
The certificate of competency along with your learner permit, even while in Ireland, still doesn't actually count as a full licence. Although you'd have to meet the grumpiest of grumpy guards to be caught for it, as my tester told me when I passed my test. I wouldn't take the risk of driving in Europe without the actual full licence in my pocket, because imagine trying to explain that one to a French or German police man!
Sorry I don't have a better answer for you OP.

I have my own car, not hiring any.
