Me and the girlfriend will be passing through Split in June and plan to spend two nights there.
We intend to spend the first day exploring Split and the second day in Hvar and then coming back to Split again for the night. However is it worth staying in Hvar overnight the 2nd night? We will have heavy luggage with us and I was thinking is it worth the effort taking it over to Hvar just for one overnight stay?
Is a day trip there enough?

    Hi Officer999,

Personally i would do 2 nights in Hvar. Its a beautiful little place. Spilt is nice too but we felt we had seen it all in one morning. I'd imagine you would be a little disappointed if you had to leave Hvar after 1 night and head back to Split. Hvar has a nice holiday feel to it if you know what I mean.

If you get the catamaran it brings you directly into Hvar town. Its only a small place so the bags shouldn't be an issue. Our hotel collected our bags and we walked around to the hotel. About a 5 min walk I think.

    Anymore questions just me know!

Ya id try for more than one day but all the accommodation is close by and as soon as the ferry docks there are loads of locals trying to offer their private accommodation.

+1 for 1 night in split and 2 in Hvar. Rent a boat from the harbour in Hvar for one of the days (about 40-50 quid) and travel around to the nearby islands. Bliss.

Is it better to take the private accommodation with the locals or have it sorted before you arrive?

From my perspective, we booked local accommodation on hostelbookers the day before we arrived.

    Hi,

I think it really depends on what you are looking for! If you don't mind cheap and cheerful then wait until you get there. If you want a nice hotel then pre book. We stayed in this hotel

    suncanihvar.com/amfora-hvar-grand-beach-resort.html

but we paid about 100 eur a night for it 2 years ago. Its a lot more expensive now.

Mind you, our room wasn't great compared to the pictures. I don't think its worth anywhere near the current prices.
