no pal no joke, first off I don't pay for my ammo , I don't eat much game and I shoot lots of it , I try to give it away to people but there`s only so much people will take, so by giving it to a dealer its not going to waste that's the main reason I was asking about game dealers , which I have found and the few bob I get covers my petrol , and I get a drink from it ,

To be fair lads this topic (gamedealers) always stirs a bit of heat ...
Not every situation is the same ..it may be like where I am that one village is rife with rabbits whereas you go 2 miles up the road and you wont have a problem ... I also come from farming background so know only too well the damage that unchecked population s of rabbits and deer etc can do on crops but would still like to see the next generation have the same chance at hunting as I had .
Maybe op is getting it a bit harsh .. dont know if he should be bearing the backlash for mearly asking about getting someplace to take rabbits as opposed to firing them in hedge .
Me personally eat what I shoot but there have been times I brought wounded deer (barbed wire ) etc to the game dealer doesnt mean to say im going to go out blasting everything in sight for money although there are people at it .
I think a little more tolerance of each others situation is needed before we all go to guns ..
    Happy hunting :-)

very well said , I never over shoot an area ive been shooting on the land I have for years and I still get the same shooting as the very first time I went up, I tend to shoot the older rabbits and leave the young lads for another day, im not mad on rabbit myself but do eat other game ducks pigeons etc, im not out shooting to make a wage for example got to know a young lad from this site who hasn't any land to shoot yet, brought him out with me last night and any rabbits we shot he hung on to , if there`s people that want the animals I shoot I give them away, but im not going to waste them if I haven`t and if it means going to a dealer so be it there been used , that bloke that thinks there will be no rabbits left in 15 years has never met me has never seen the amount of rabbits im trying in control!!!!, but yet he`s jumping down my neck, the lad I had out last night couldn't believe how many rabbits he seen , on only a 15 acre site which five of is very badly damaged, I shoot over 10`s of 1000`s of acres so I shoot and area for a few weeks then leave it alone could be months before im back , and I totally agree with renandsitmpy about making sure the next generation has a place to hunt its only right, the way I go about my hunting they will and they`ll have lovely healthy rabbits to hunt ,

IMO I don't agree with game dealers
    Only encouraging people to poach!!
I shoot when I want a bun by or 2 for my own pot, or someone wants a few for a pot.
Apart from pheasants/ ducks, I won't shoot unless its required or wanted

When it comes to pheasants/ ducks, I pay for my privilege to hunt.I hunt for the want of a bird for the oven, not a big bag day

As far as rabbits/pigeons are considered, I'll shoot them if I want some meat for myself/others or if a farmer has a problem
If someone shoots a big bag for a farmer and turns a few quid, fair dues
But shooting for the want of money IMO is a different game altogether

Game dealers have our sport ruined
I don't care if I get slated for it but I honestly would like to see game dealers only operate in seasons where big bags are expected
Thinking of a deer as "oh that's x amount per pound of the animal in my sight" is not a hunter, your an entrepreneur
Go set up a market stall and sell cheap tack!!!!
Apologies for off topic, rant over!!

I also hate what game dealers do here. But i have been on the land in question, my freezer is full thanks to it and there are literally hundreds of rabbits there and the damage is severe. They need to be controlled and there is no point in just tossing them in the ditch. It is not so he can make money it is so they don't go to waste.

I get you 100% and would agree but would sooner see meat left in a freezer for a few months than someone making profit for wiping out an area when there's no need

I don't think most lads have any problem with you shooting rabbits or pidgeon for esential pest controll, and nothing wrong with you looking for a way to make use of what you shoot instead of throwing it in the ditch to rot! It's just the whole game dealer thing with its connections with deer poaching, and they tend to bring out the greed in people!

As far as I know all game has to be cleaned out and refrigerated before bringing to game dealer, especially the likes of rabbits during the warm weather which you might have to stock up to make it worth the trip!
Now might be wrong on this, so maybe someone who's dealt with dealer's will have exact details!

Why don't you check with Dublin Zoo............they may be interested in large amounts to feed carnivores.........not sure but it could be worth a try!

If I were u and was getting such high numbers i would be reducing my dog food bill!!

I know my pack love when I throw in pigeon and rabbit into their dinner.

the dealer I was talking to said u can freeze them or bring them in fresh , just cut the guts out , or if clean and skin he`d pay more wont be doing that , u need about 100 to make it worth while , like I don't want to be out of pocket for him to be making money , got to add I haven't even been yet,

zoo,,,, I never even thought of the zoo that's a good idea, did try the dog trust and got ran out of the place by some animal lover lol

dog feed, not sure on that because last thing I wont is my dog eating everything I shoot before he brings it back ,
