Road Tyre

How many KM should you get from a set of road tyre's. I recently got a Giant Defy and have done about 750 KM in just over a month and i've had 2 punctures in the last week in the rear tyre. There is a small split in the rear tyre with another developing and today i switched the front one to the rear as it looks in better condition. They are Giant SR-4 tyres.

I only bought a set of schwalbe lugano 23" for another bike so replacing my Giant tyres this month is not really a option.

Gone over any serious bumps with that wheel? Like the rim of a pothole or a kerb? Are there any defects on the rim of the wheel near where the tyre is splitting (probably have to take the tyre off to identify that)?

Answer to your original Q: You should be getting way more that 750K out of them provided you are breaking easy and aren't skidding to a stop every time you hit a junction or a red light. Someone might correct me here but Id say 2000km+ anyway.

It depends on the tyre. Even racier tyres, you'd usually get around 3,000km out of them. But if you get a cut that's bad enough, you could end up replacing them quicker than that. Were the punctures in the same spot as the cut?

I've had the tyre off and checked all the spokes and it looks ok. Usual bumps and holes on the Dublin roads. One skid coming down into Enniskerry when i forgot about the speed bump being there. I'm not best pleased with only 750km.

Not even close to were the cut is, thats the strange thing. Maybe i've just had some bad luck but the condition of the tyre still isn't great

I got about 3000km out of the bundled giant tyres before the rear one started to puncture regularly. Under examination there was a big enough hole ripped open. I was commuting on them from July till late March. The debris on the side of the road really wears down the tyres over time. That and a 90kg rider :-). I have Conti GP 4000s now and they seem to be more hard wearing. I can't see any noticeable wear after 1000km on Wicklows roads.
