Deserves his own thread I think because of his wide ranging contribution to the sport.

John Arthur "Black Jack" Brabham has died at home in Queensland at the age of 88.

Three times F1 champion, 1959, 60, 66. Engineered his own car and won the constructors title in 66 and 67, the only man ever to win the championship driving his own car.

The Brabham marque was formed in 1962 and carried on in name until 1992, with various owners including Bernie Ecclestone. In its heyday it was among the biggest supplier of customer racing chassis in the industry.

Jack Brabham, mechanic, driver, designer, entrepreneur, farmer, father. RIP

I know little of the history of brabham. I was aware of him building and winning driving his own cars.
What happened Brabham, the business? Was it gone into outside ownership before his sons could take it on?

The Brabham team changed hands a few times. Bernie Ecclestone owned the team at one point with Nelson Piquet winning the 1981 and 1983 Drivers Championships driving Bernie's Brabhams.

Bernie sold the team to a Swiss billionaire in the late 80's who in turn sold the team to the Middlebridge from Japan who owned the team until it shut down at the end of 1992.
