Hi all, hoping you can help me out with this query.

when laying strip foundations i understand 75mm cover is adequate to reinforcement.

my question is, is this to the bottom / top of concrete only. I.e. Cover from end of rebars running perpendicular to concrete face do not need this cover or can extend beyond concrete onto earth- for instance if you wanted to extend foundation in the future. As long as cover is 75mm to paralell bars from concrete face is this ok?

hope you can help, many thanks in advance

All reinforcing steel has to have a minimum of 35mm cover of concrete, but most times a minimum of 50mm cover is used. Steel should not be allowed to extend into the soil in any circumstances
