Do people judge you by your food preferences?

I believe that people can be quite ignorant when it comes to other peoples food preferences. I like foods such as basil pesto, olives, salmon, pate, anchovies, sun dried tomatoes, serrano ham, ox tongue and hummus. Most people are grossed out as I eat all combinations of the above and think its strange that I don't like chicken curry or ham and cheese sambos. Anybody get the same hassle when eating out?

I would have thought that most people are mature enough not to judge someone based solely on their preference in foods

I judge people when they put salt on their food without even tasting it

What´s unusual about anything you´ve mentioned?

The people who judge you are clearly peasants, OP.

    You are very fancy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Food is just one of the many reasons I judge people.

Do you live in Limerick or Kerry OP? The foods you list are perfectly normal where I live.

I judge obese people in the supermarket if their trolleys are full of fizzy drinks, crisps and instant noodles. I wouldn't say anything but I admit to uncharitable thoughts.

My oh often brings leftovers to work for lunch and gets lots of comments from other staff.

Maybe they live in the 80's. Wasn't patè posh in the 80's?

And what hassle do you get, or is it that people just think that your food preferences are weird?

What do you think of people who eat ham & cheese sambos or chicken curry? I get the feeling that you seem to think that these people are maybe a bit less culinarily cultured than you.

Only when you post them on facebook and snapchat ffs

In college, people would come up to me and be like oh la de dah look at you with your pesto anchovy baguette you're sick. I have no problem no ham and cheese sambos either

They're taking the piss ffs with your sun dried tomatoes and your serrano ham! :pac:

I imagine it's not your food choices they're slagging you for, but the fact you think it's somehow cultured to eat food that's been available in Ireland since before your arse was as big as a shirt button!

On a closer rereading, you seem to be making a shopping list for a picnic rather than citing any dishes you'd see on a menu when eating out. Are the people giving you hassle actually the waiting staff and the chefs, for your off-menu mashups?

The only thing people have been really grossed out by, is the fact I love bovril on toast. I'd eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I recently discovered there were others like me and my family who eat it too. I'm not alone in the world, hooray. :pac:

That's odd I must have missed that.

Can you quote what the OP posted which made you feel it's a 'fact' that he thinks it's cultured to eat what he does?

Does everything in the English language have to be broken down into itty bitty little pieces for you to digest? The fact that the OP has to be so specific about a ham and tomato sandwich says enough about their perception of themselves.

Like I said - I don't think anyone cares about his food choices, they're judging him for his pedantry, a bit like the way I'm judging you right now for your pedantry.

You're doing it wrong OP, you've combined the culinary delights of the bourgeoisie with the phallic monstrosity of the plebeians. You should have opted for ciabatta. Rookie mistake.

    What are you on about?

He just said that people think it's strange that he doesn't like ham and cheese sambos, here is the quote:

..so quit putting words in his mouth.

I am not being pedantic at all.

You very specifically accused him of thinking he was culutured to eat the foods which he eats, when he hadn't said, nor even implied, anything of the sort.

I normally get that but I don't think the store had any in stock on that particular day.

Are these supposed to be fancy foods? They might be mostly foreign but you can be sure many of them started out as peasant food.

Your the fella who started the thread about auld women wearing Asics, yeah?

I suppose winding people up on the internet is one way to pass the time on the weekends. Hobbies and spending time with friends are other fun ways to pass time as an f.y.i.

Looking forward to your next installment. ;)

Anyone who thinks a crisp sandwich/roll is a credible lunch choice, must be missing a palate.

Nothing wrong with a roll with a nice tasty filling. There's nothing out of the ordinary about any of the foods mentioned in the OP. One reason some people get strange looks is because packed lunches can smell depending on what it is, and that's pretty disgusting and irritating in an office space/lecture hall etc... You people know who you are.
