buying a car: differing info on advert and motorcheck

    Just a query:

Going to view a car tomorrow and have complete a report from motorcheck.ie.

The advert and report have differing :
~ car tax rates (advert down 100euro)
~ NCT due dates (difference of 1year 4months, again advert looks better)
~ advert says 2 previous owners, but check says 3 incl 2* Dealer (would they count when you're selling)

    Anything of concern there?

    Thanking You,
    kerry4sam

    Plenty of concern.

You can verify when the car is due nct on the nct website.
You can verify the motor tax rate on motortax.ie
    Dealers don't count as owners.

So if cert says 2 previous owners, that means there are 3 owners and you'll be the 4th.

Do you mind posting the reg?

I would be more worried if mileage came back really different and dealers probably were never on actual log book just signed over on log book data base.

The tax could be a typo or they just entered for half a year or something.

If thats all that came up I wouldn't be to bothered but would suggest giving the car itself a good checking and a good spin also a mechanic if possible and if the car is going for a lot say €7000 or well over you could thing of a inspection from the likes of AA or so on.

My feeling would be if they aren't giving correct info on the advert, they don't care.

~ Yeah the report verifies the correct NCT and Tax-due date. Advert incorrect on both counts.
~ Not coming back as stolen, so that's a positive if I decide to purchase and bring her over county bounds.
~ # Dealers info, that info is okay.

Nice drop in advert price and my offer too.

Is it a dealer or private?

paying out to find out information that should be provided upfront is a bit annoying.

I just looked at an advert for a car, no engine size in it, its a dealer, checked and none of their ads have the engine size.
If they cant be upfront about basic information, what more serious information is being obscured or if they are making a task which someone should be able to filter easily means a buyer might not spend time looking at other things on the car?

Id still look, Id be going in with a harsher view and be allowing for less, maybe its an error?
Id be interested to know why to hold back on the basic information as most of that could be discovered without paying, at which point it could just piss off a buyer.

The mileage will be verified tomorrow on inspection. I'll bring for inspection tomorrow also as price is over that bracket.

Emigration is reason given so maybe they don't actually care and just looking for quick cash sale.

    Thanks again for replies,

That is one term I never like in ads saying they are leaving the country.

Just seems dodgy to me maybe some are genuine but there are a lot of scammers out there.

What type of car is it?

when I see emigration as reason for sale or certain other things, along the lines of lady driver, I wonder why people bother putting comments like that in at all.
Emigrating, where you'll never find me by the time you discover the problems with this car, even though there'd be little in the way of comeback anyway.
I've no idea what benefit being a lady driver is meant to mean

Yeah I'd agree with the lady driver aspect considering some of my driving starting out. Something shockin' at times when my Late Loving Dad would look at me in awe when I told him stories of what happened :o

Yeah re: Emigration. Friend selling car initially, now he will be there himself for the viewing so I don't know what that's about.

    Thanks,

^^^ Thanks Everyone who assisted, both on-thread and via pm :)

    Well everything just went perfect.
I did break some golden rules/guidelines from the stickied thread on buying from private seller and even in general, with meeting strangers :)

It was surreal. I saw someone drive this a few weeks back and my heart melted. Looking online and I found this and something told me to 'look no further'. I text the owner, late in evening on Sunday, and replies came back very lively.
This was my first choice & Everything just went wonderfully :)

I phoned my Insurance (Axa) and eventhough the tax on this was 100euro cheaper; my insurance would cost approx 80euro more so all just balanced out, only I have a newer machine with more gadgets, buttons, sensors and power that I could've ever imagined owning.

** ^ That day and Day of Meet:
~ Continuous feedback & info supplied by seller via txt until we met
~ Met (on my own) @ a Shopping Centre carpark (my idea). Both he & his wife were just lovely to meet
~ Checked car out and took for test-drive with him, just a beauty to drive. A lickle strange at first and my spacial awareness needs adjusting. That'll come in time though I'm sure
~ Arrived back and we had coffee and a natter with his wife in s.c. before deposit exchanged & receipt signed

    ** Next Day (Today)
~ Awoke with this nervous excitement. Hours from owning her. Arrived into Axa and paid difference in insurance and agreed time for changing over my insurance to co-incide when I've have keys in my hands.
~ Arrived and met the sellers friend who was minding the car in his absence until I arrived.
~ He drove us into bank to complete balance (after speaking with his wife, ex-banker over the phone) and receive receipts from bank verifying same. All going smoothly. ]
~ Back to his to collect car and get invited in for coffee. Had delicious coffee and a chat for over 30-mins. Just a pure sweetheart. Invited back to meet him & his wife again if ever cycling or driving in the area.
It was surreal. It just felt like I'd known them for ages. Coffee and Hugs (after swapping war-stories from the car and bike) later and I'm on my way home with my new machine.

Everything was just smooth. My Late Loving Dad was certainly looking down over me today (on his 5-month anniversary too)!

Met two lovely couples who I could spent all day chatting to.

    Now,
~ I was given names and details and verified same incl
The sale of car was supposed to be done by a mechanic in same town and he would keep over x-amount, only sale agreed and finalised without his assistance. Spoke with him too yesterday and verified I've 4-month warranty with garage and over 1-year warranty left with actual dealership.

I read so many stories and warnings, but I just went with my instincts and gut-feeling and all went perfect. I was even given the log-book, once seller signed over the coffee, for me to complete and post onto Shannon for change of ownership. Just as I wanted. Peace of mind it will be done. That'll be sent by registered post by me tomorrow.

I don't know if that'll help anyone else wishing to purchase, but that's how everything worked out for me.

The car I drove upto this point was my first-ever car and I will sorely miss her. even took her for numerous spins yesterday to places we used frequent, kinda like a goodbye drive. She was giving up on me with a while and needs some work so I'll rest her for awhile and invest in her again at some point. Cannot sell nor trade her in. Just cannot let her go so won't for now.

    Safe & Happy Driving,

    Thanks again Everyone,
    kerry4sam

Thats a good begining to a new motor and happy ending overall.

Best of luck and it's good to hear it wasn't a scam as it's just something that would bother me with what I said above.

I really want to know what car the OP had before and what car she bought?

Feels like it's a crucial aspect of the story
